Ch 33 Election Date

Chicago, IL

The VA says that I am only entitled to 8 months and 18 days of Ch 33 benefits. The reason for this is because when I started the Spring 2010 semester, I had 9 days of Ch. 30 benefits remaining. I exhausted all of my Ch. 30 benefits, but picked the wrong election date on my VA Form 22-1990. When my 9 days expired the VA used my remaining 12 months of Ch 33 benefits to cover the rest of the semester. However, they only paid me Ch. 30 benefits. Has this situation ever happened to anyone? Essentially, this has cost me over $5,000 in lost benefits. If this has every happened to anyone, did the VA allow you to change your election date?
