The Military Knows It Has a Morality Problem
It has not been a good year for America's armed forces. David Petraeus's extramarital affair dominated headlines; 25 instructors are under investigation for systematic sexual abuse of cadets at Lackland Air Force Base; and a rash of senior officers-at the rank of colonel or higher-have been reprimanded for serious misconduct.

Petraeus's unsvory sexual conduct aside, his broken trust with the public goes well beyond his humiliation of himself and his family. As a taxpayer,I find his extravagances insulting and worthy of serious isciplinary action by the military or from the Senate INTEL Committee that breezed him to the CIA job without vettinghim. It is obvious, via insider talk and timing considerations he and Paula Broadwell began their affair while he commanded the Afghan War. He thought he was too powerful to get caught. Too Davd Petraeus.
He should leave public life for good. He can trade on his name, such as it has become, to serve as a celebrty with a story to tell. He should never again be on the taxpayers' payroll, directly or indirectly.
