I was looking for an indoor batting cage. I called Challenge. I spoke with a female over the phone who told me that they had several packages available. We went to check it out. We decided to go with the level 1 membership which is the top tier package offered there
On the form we filled, it stated, that the group classes were for 11 year old children and up. I informed the front desk that my son was 9 years old, so if my son couldn’t do the group classes we would probably go to another facility that we looked at. I liked the pricing at challenge because of the group classes being included in the membership. She told me that they would let him into the group lessons regardless of his age, so I payed the membership fee of $137.50 plus tax. We used the facility for the first time, and set up an appointment to get his introductory lesson and skill assessment.
We arrived at the appointment to do the introductory lesson and skill assessment. We sat down with Johnny. He was very unsure of what he was doing. He asked my son a series of questions, and went over some of his experience in the field of sports science with no mention of an actual degree. Johnny, finally, took my son to do the so called,“introductory lesson and skill assessment”. When they finished we sat down for a bit but he gave us no insight into what it was that my son needed to work on.
Johnny then tried to sell us very pricey private lessons. I told him that we would try the group lessons and possibly do some private lessons if the group lessons were to my satisfaction. He acted as if he was insulted by my response, and then stated that my son was too young to do the group lessons. I told him that the person working at the time I payed for the membership told me that my son would be able to attend the classes, and that is why I paid the $137.50. Johnny told me he knew she told me that, He then said they would let him try the classes. I told him the group classes were the reason why I signed my son up for the membership in the first place. He said they would let him do the group classes.
During the lesson my son had to use the restroom and was asking how to get out of the cage. Johnny instructed my son to walk behind the girl who was swinging a bat. My son came within an inch of getting his head knocked off. I was yelling at him to wait while Johnny was standing there with a grin as if he thought that endangering my child was somehow funny, or if somehow that proved his point that a 9 year old is too young to be in a two person group lesson. If anything it was proof to me that the guy is incompetent. By the time my son was done with using the restroom the lesson was over.
About half of the one month membership was up when I realized that we never got the introductory video analysis. I mentioned this to Johnny’s wife who said that it was just some quick video they take. What does that even mean? They offered it in the package I purchased, and I want to get what I paid for.
I called ahead to make the appointment. Johnny answered the phone. I had to explain the situation all over again to him. He said he would call me right back to see what time he could do it. He never called back. On the next visit Johnny said he would do it the next day. I said fine, and that my son would be attending the next couple of group classes. He told me that there was no way that my son would be allowed to go to another one of the classes after the way he did last time. Of course all of this was said in front of my son who was made to be very upset by this. I told him to just forget the video analysis, and that I would not be doing any further business with him. I then told him that I would be voicing my concerns about his business on any site that I can. He said that if I do he will go on there and dispute what I say. Well, that’s fine because all of what I have written is true, and this guy has basically ripped me off for $137.50.

First of all, Covell, let's get one thing straight. I have over 7 years in the buisness, both in front of the camera, and behind it. I have experience teaching children of ALL ages about America's favorite past time: baseball. Simply put, I love the game. When I'm not teaching baseball, I'm playing baseball. When I'm not playing baseball, i'm thinking about it. Let's just say I know what it takes to play the game, and to make your game great. Some say I could have played at a professional level if it was not for the injury. But I made lemons.
For anyone to suggest that I've given less than 110 percent is nothing short of total nonsense. The above allegations made against us are ridiculous. My wife and I are loved and respected by the community here in Tempe, and sponsor the Boys and Girls clubs annual run for the cure every April. So perhaps I'm not...."Very unsure of what I'm doing...or: "yelling at him to wait while Johnny was standing there with a grin as if he thought that endangering my child was somehow funny"... as you so nicely put it. So perhaps YOU are the one who is "Very unsure of what YOURE doing" wouldnt you say, Covel?"
Perhaps I should address each issue one by one. First the video analsys. How should I put this? Some children simply do not have what it takes. Baseball just simply isn't for them. Is that clear enough? So although you knocked me, in fact, I was looking out for you son. Looking to save him the embarrasement of seeing what I, a professional, saw. I felt that seeing that footage would forever ruin his self esteem, and further the already bad habits he displayed. Might I suggest you buy a baseball video game for your son? I think I do. That seems more of his speed and education level.

Some people on this forum might say,'wait? what about the refund?' I will happily give you and your family a refund but not in person. Please give me your mailing address. The reason for this is that i am busy teaching students.

My wife, who is the one that found your post, is very upset. I assured her that this sort of thing comes with the territory and I reminded her of when Babe Ruth gave lessons and had a similiar experience. PLease refrain from posting any further comments, as I will be forced to seek legal action.

If you insist on having a a video analysis of your son you can bring him over with that video game I talked about earlier. I'll be happy to take photos/videos and run an in-depth analysis on his progress for you.

I need to stop writing now because i can't concentrate- because baseball.

Covell is legitimately a bad person who drinks all day and lives to cause problems in other peoples lives because he is just that guy. Rise above.

Absolutely I don't drink and haven't since 2012. I run a legitimate business as a professional. Topix has only served as forum for weak individuals who cannot handle the critique of said professional. Rise up covells of the world and produce offsprings that can play the game of giants: baseball!
