I am so sorry to hear that your board of Nursing removed your nursing Licence for a DUI.
Here in Canada is is considered an addiction and therefore a diseases. You needed medical help not your licence being removed!
Here in Canada there are laws that protects nurses with your dilemma. More over we nurses have powerful unions to help us.I don't think that Nurses have Union in US,and they should have Unions.
I know what you are going through.I too have been reported to the the College of NURSES, and they treat you worse than a criminal.
You must be strong and do not give up on your career. Keep studying, upgrade, but don't give up.Because that is exactly what they want. They want to break you for ever.
I had to deal with the College of Nurses too.
I had been bullied, discriminated against, sexually harassed, drugged at work and my property stolen. And persistently set up for failure.
My Directors told me to file for harassment. I did just that, after the investigation my supervisors and some of the nurses retaliated against me, and made my working hours a total hell.
I ended up with a major depression. I was also reported to the College Of Nurses, and had to sit there listening to all their crap/allegation, while i was ill.
I accepted all the charges, otherwise i would have been dead today.
If You advocate for your patients and are an excellent nurse, more likekly you will end up being reported to the College of Nurses, or the Board, as you called.
Never think that the Board will try to be fair with the nurses, all what they do, is go along with corrupted employers and bullies nurses.
Remember the Board mandates is to 'protect the public/patients' that is what they say, when in fact their are protecting their cushy employment!
For them it is easy to humiliate and punish the nurses than to investigate well and correct the problem.
At he end the Board (Colleges of Nurses) all what they really care is Money and self preservation, Nothing else. They could care less for the public.
Finally, My College Of nurses, and your Board of Nurses have Governmental institutions who oversee them. You should report your board to them I am going to do the same here.
Wishing you and all the nurses who are suffering injustice all the very best always.
