Last night I drank 5 alcoholic drinks and was unable to urinate properly. Only small dribble eventhough I really had to go. This has happened to me 5-10 times this year. I noticed the opening of my urethra was very red and irritated. I saw my urologist about this issue and he is going to perform a cystoscopy next week. He thinks it's my bladder stretching too much causing me to lose my ability to contract my muscles properly. I am only 25 and don't think it is a prostate issue. He recommended flomax and it hasn't worked. Does anyone know what could possilby be wrong?

IANADNDIPOOTN (Doctor), but you might want to talk to *your* Doc and your Pharmacist about booze + FloMax™. Some things don't mix.

Prostate issues can happen at any age. We have this advertisement image of gray hair as a requirement, but consider the source. The odds keep going up as we age, but starting w/ first ejaculation the odds don't = zero. RKBA! Best regards.

It may also be a kidney stone which is blocked in your urethra and that's why you were unable to urinate properly.

This has also happened to me but I am 61 and a male. Last Sunday it was very bad and lasted all day. Therefore I think it is an indication that my liver is being damaged by drink, and so I have decided to stop the intake of alcohol completely.

I am now actually searching the internet to find out what is the exact reason it is likely you cannot urinate after the intake of alcohol; but it certainly seems to me to be a warning that it is time to stop. I only drank spirits, moreover, and that is mainly because I am depressed.

Wow... I'm grateful somebody else stepped up & said that first! When a person notices something not working right, after drinking *any* alcoholic drink, that's a sign you've gotten too old to keep messing yourself up. A lot of us are blessed with a tolerance for drinks with that solvent in them, when we're young adults. Some of us get too old for it, sooner than others. No shame in that. No shame in leaving the hospital holding the bag ONE day, but why rush it? RKBA! Best regards.

I am 38 year old female. I have been having a lot of problems urinating in the last week. I had noticed several times prior to my problem right now, which is a lot of pressure and either not being able to urinate or just a little bit. I did have a urinalyasis done this past week, but the urologists office said that my urine was contaminated, so I would have to do another one tomorrow. I did have several mornings in this past year that if I consumed 5 or more beers the night before when I woke I would feel like I had to go very bad, and had horrible amount of pressure, but could not urinate. I would drink a bottle of water and mid day I would finally go. I have an appointment with a urologist tomorrow afternoon and I am very worried. I did have a type of ultrasound with dye about 10 years ago and the radiologist that red the xray said that I had a mass on one of my kidneys. The urologist stated that the radiologist did not know what they were talking about that what they saw was my kidney. I am sure that that urologist was right, but I am a bit alarmed now. I do have almost everyday lower back pain as well. Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't drink to excess. Also many drugs, some over the counter and illegal drugs, like ecstasy and heroin and others of its cousins, will temporarily deaden the bladder nerves and make it impossible to urinate. You will have retention of urine sometimes up to 24 hours. Imagine having to hold your pee for that long. If the pain is too bad, then you need to go to the ER or your doctor to be catheterized.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Aquarius

You're in a tricky position because someone who is supposed to know what they're talking about seems to be spouting complete nonsense instead. If this is an older friend or relative then you can simply smile politely and wait for them to rejoin the rest of us on Planet Earth. But if it's a boss or bureaucrat who's talking rubbish or giving you some puzzling orders, you'll be in a quandary about what to do.
