100% agree with Mojo8! If it's the size of a golf ball, is the risk really greater than the reward? If it's that size, there isn't a lot of room for error. And if your asking where to put the needle, it sounds like you don't have much experience with aspirating yourself. Play it safe!

I think Mojo8 also raised a really good point. Since I started aspirating myself (I've done it about 5 times), I've noticed that when it comes back, it's a little bigger and it is A LOT firmer. It's to the point that I can always notice it if I wear a pair of jeans, where as before I could wear anything and not have a problem with it. I've been feeling really self conscious about it, always wondering if people can notice it. I stopped aspirating a few months ago since I'm having surgery in Jan or Feb, But I really want to do it a few more times before then because the firmness and size is really bothering me.

Stay safe guys, the last thing anyone wants is a needle messing with your boys!

Steve, If u have insurence u should really let a professional do it(THATS IF U GOT INSURENCE).. I have not done it on myself, but i just had a urologist do it and it was pretty simple,, I see u are in florida and if u are willing to drive to WestPalm beach(not sure how far u r) my urologist is absolutly amazing.. He does the surgery too, but nornmally tells his patients to try and drain it a few times which is really cool cause most urologist wont drain them.. I had my drain last month and unforunatly it came back.. My wifes father said he had it years ago and recommends after u drain it to wear a jock strap.. i might try that next time.. anyways email me if u want the info

BTW- What Mojo's tell the most important info:
1) dont drain it unless it is bothering u allot
2) get a flash light and go into a DARK ROOM(NO LIGHT) and once u push that light into you hydrocele u will see you nut sack will look like a water ballon.. I could not understand how to do it either but finally figure it out.. You NEED a good LED type light.. Doctors use like a high powered pen light

I'm shocked that there is anyone who can't find the correct information on hydrocells, or a urologist who can and will drain it. I have been managing mine for a couple of years now just putting of surgical avenues because my maximum size is not too terrible. I have considered draining my own after watching my Doc do it because of how simple and easy it appears to be. The real scoop is that it will return to it's size when treated after about six months. My aspiration was quick and painless, no bleeding, no bandaging needed, but do it yourself medical procedures without being trained by your Doc it not something I'm willing to risk my health on. If there is legitimate information out there on doing it yourself with proper instruments and techniques i would be all for it.

Hey guys, I have now tried this a handful of times using a needle and syringe as well as using a needle and latex tube for straight up draining. My question is every time I have done this I have been unsuccessful, so maybe Im not inserting in the correct area? I am inserting a 20 gage needle into the right side and I have also tried towards the bottom. I have been able to drain a very, very, very small amount but that is not even close to making any difference what so ever given that it would hardly fill up the bottom of a shot glass. I am 30 years old and have been dealing with this for a very long time, about the size of a large orange now, maybe even a grapfruit. Any advice would be much appreciated. I got so excited when I found this forum and thought how nice it would be to look normal but now I am just down again.

PS.yes, I do know that it is a hydrocele.

Thank you for your help

Hi Bryan ,
How deep are you going cause if the needle is to deep the plunger will not withdraw the fluid only the skin and if not deep enough you probably haven't even punctured the hydrocyle if it's that big you should get at least 7-8 syringes out , mine is about the size of a lemon and I get 5 syringes full out and could get more but don't want to push it.
I say do it from the top ..squeeze the nut sack upward and shine the flashlight below it and find a non veiny place and stick it in about halfway up the needle and it should folw big time .
Give it a shot ( glass full )..LOL and let me know how you fared !!
Good luck

Don't know what else top say Brian. Make sure you find a good spot with the flashlight, then stick the needle into where you think the center is... not too far or too little, else you'll get tissue stuck in the needle.

The hose alone will fill up, and then create a gentle suction due to gravity. It's the best and safest way IMO.

I'm guessing that bigger and firmer very much go hand in hand... ie it's firm because the skin is stretching tighter. I'd drain for sure before it ever got to its original size, but I took 14oz out the first time. Huge... that's more than having a can of Bud in my shorts!

Mojo,
Thanks for the reply. As far as depth goes I tried many different things. On this last one, i attempted to withdraw fluid from many different depths, once the needle was in I basically started with not much of an insert to all the way in. I am going to go get a more powerful flashlight and see if maybe I can see more with that. Have you tried just attaching a latex tube to the needle? Again, thanks for your help and any further advice is always welcome.

Hi Bryan,
No never the tube , just left the sharp in place and then put plunger back and withdrew and repeat . But I always get fluid out ...man I don't know why you can't get more out then you are it's very strange , hopefully the stronger flahlight will help !!

Bryan, make sure FIRST U KNOW FORSURE ITS A HYDROCELE.. Best way is a ultrasound, but if u dont got the insurance then the light trick is darn good. I use a proton keychain light ( http://www.photonlight.com/ ) I did not order from this website, but it looks ljust like it.. U want a small powerful little light.. Asinfo my doctor used a very small needle with a tube on it that connected to a glass vial.. Sound like a setup u are using.. He used the flashlight and marked a spot were there was no veins, then put anticeptic all over my sack, then inserted the needle.. he then would push on my sack(not on the needle..)
good luck

There is a urologist in Chicago that has written a paper on aspiration/sclerotherapy of hydroceles and it was quoted by several other papers. Great guy, very smart (I went to him). Turns out I had a hematocele and he drained it (still a little left though). I had 2 ultrasounds but they showed up fine (hydrocele). However my scrotum wouldn't illuminate when I shined a light on it. I recommend finding a doctor that has dealt with this stuff. Any doctor that knows anything about hydroceles will not recommend having surgery first. Just an FYI.

Can someone says what it means if you can't see anything after you light up your scrotum in a dark room: no transluscency at all
I don't want to do it myself because of that fact alone; I am afraid to bleed to death in the bathroom

Then my circonstances are different from most of you, it seems: a girl friend did it to me a long time ago sucking my left ball. For a long time it was manageable, growing slowly, then five years ago after a 10K on a treadmill it started to double up in size and the only thing I can do no is bicycle; I can't even go to my club swimming as it is such an embarassment when I see people noticing

A doctor here wants $300 for a first visit then about $400 for draining it: is it the outgoing rate?

Hey Phillip
#1) You need a descent LED light to use on your nuts. Get the right light.. If u try to use a reg flashlight u gotta get it just right.. When i first tried i could never get it and thought "what the hell" Then the UROLOGIST did it and it was easy.. I use a keychain proton light(see my link above) or go buy a PEN LIGHT with a LED bright bulb.

Obviously Iam NO DOCTOR,but a hydrocele or spermocele is NOT a HARD LUMP thought it can kinda feel that way... Usually the BAD type of teste lumps are the SMALL ONES u dont notice..

To be honest if u got the cash goto the doctor,BUT TALK TO HIS SECATERY.. 300 for the visit it RETARDED .. FIRST BECAUSE atleast in Miami a normal UROLOGIST CHARGES 275$, but the insurance only pays like 80%..So i think it would be totally fair for the DOCTOR to give u a break and charge 200$ for a 15min exam.. You will be surprised if u tell the Secatery to check with the Doctor for 200$ cash they will normally do it.. I paid a NEUROSUGION 200$ CASH to review my MRI and x-rays and they are WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than a UROLOGIST..

THE BIG QUESTION IS: CHECK WITH THE UROLOGIST "BEFORE" YOU PAY HIM.. MOST UROLGOIST WILL NOT DO AN ASPIRATION WITHOUT A 6 month old ULTRASOUND which cost like 1k.. So I definately thnk its worth seeing a UROLOGIST for 200$ and let him show you how to use the LIGHT and ask him questions.. My UROLOGIST CHARGE ME 280$ to aspirate which was paid at 80% by my insurace.. You need to make sure its a hydrocele.spermcele before u asirate.. Using a light is like 90% SURE.

GOOD LUCK
Philip

Don, I think I got it somewhat; before I was holding the light away from that thing; you have to put it against it and it does light up; thing is, I can't locate my left nut yet...

Anyway I will see a doctor the first time; I told his secretary that I wanted it drained, not surgery the first time, she put me on hold, and it sounds that he will do it eventually. He wants about $300 for the exam then $400 on top of that to aspirate proper which seems steep with your $280 rate but the guy is a top urologist in a top hospital and I don't want a handyman working on my balls..

Philip, since you're in Chicago, go talk to Dr. Levine of Urology Specialists. He does aspiration with sclerotherapy.

$400 for the aspiration alone is robbery - that's about what Dr. Levine charges for asp. w/ scl.

That's the problem with just aspiration - since it doesn't fix the fluid secretion vs fluid absorption rate problem it comes back sooner or later.

The surgery is effective, but very expensive and invasive. It's tough to find a urologist who will aspirate and then perform sclerotherapy. And if you do convince a local doc to do it, he's just going off the various papers he's read with no real experience.

Dr. Levine has been doing this for a long time and has the protocol down to a very high success rate. Google "Levine hydrocele sclerotherapy" and "doxycycline hydrocele". The latter search will lead you to a pdf that describes the procedure used.

I suggest budgeting a trip to Chicago or spending some time convincing a local urologist to do the procedure - and see if Dr. Levine would do a consult with your local doc.

Hey guys,

As a precautionary tale for why you should get the surgery instead of aspirating, I wanted to tell y'all my store. I just had the hydrocele operation 4 days ago and am currently recovering and doing well.

About three weeks ago, I had an ultrasound on my right testicle and they had found only 300 mL of fluid in it. However, when they did the surgery, they unexpectedly discovered that most of my fluid collection was in my abdomen and the doctor for lack of a better way of saying it was quite shocked when 1,250 mL of fluid came out during surgery. I had a drain in my balls for about 4 days which was removed earlier today. The after surgery pain was no big deal on the first day, bad on the second day, and the rest of it was fine except for the drain.

My balls look kinda of funny still, but I'm no longer in pain and can walk around ok and should be in full strength in 3 weeks. I am very glad I did the surgery b/c if that fluid had stayed in there, it might have severely hampered my kidney function.

Trust me...you dont know whats up there until they operate...if you have the insurance, just get the surgery done.
