Some advice that I applied with a surgery some years back: I asked the prep MD what was to be operated on; he stared back with a blank look, so I asked for a marker and then wrote on my body where surgery was to take place. Result was no error in surgery site.[They had prepped both sides.]
NEVER trust the staff to get it right; do it yourself.
