Keep buying rotten meat and broken eggs and the store owner thinks you like that.

I have talked to people that leave Lamar and go to Las Animas, La Junta, Eads, and Syracuse.

They already know.

I dare you to go to the Springs or Pueblo and see the number of people that BYPASS Lamar. They sure don't for the fun of the drive. They want good health care for their loved ones....now tell me they shouldn't care about their loved ones.

To the one who posted "I use Memorial in colorado springs" Do you not realize Memorial's DRs are the people who read PMC's X-Rays. So your driving 3 hours for the exact same Dr to look at your mamo or x-ray

Freedom of choice! Been PMC, Parkview, Corwin, Memorial, and few other small hospitals, plus VA. My choice also is Memorial. The exact same Dr? I doubt it! But at Memorial I don't wait in a waiting room for 15-30 minutes for an x-ray and it's read within 15 minutes, not hours or days later!

So it is nice to see you admit to the gaps in coverage at Lamar.

Local Person - Most small hospitals contract with out of town radiology practices to get their studies read. It is simply not feasible to hire a radiologist in a small medical facility.
While I agree that PMC has some issues, such as a very poor billing system, I have always found the nursing staff to be very caring and professional.
The truth is, no matter where you go for medical care there are good experiences and bad ones.
There are many people who would not be alive today if it were not for the immediate care they received in a small town facility. Perhaps you have heard of the golden hour? It is a long drive to Colorado Springs when your life is ebbing away.

Of course there are gaps in coverage in Lamar It is a Small town, 25 bed hospital it would be impossible to provide every possible coverage in health care that there is to offer. I think however It is a blessing that we have what they do offer, this town is drying up and fast. If I was a Doctor and had no family ties to the area why on earth would I want to live in Lamar? For the great aroma? The wonderfull shopping and other activities the area has to offer? We are lucky that the hospital does seek the specialists to travel to the are a few times a month, and we are lucky that they have the awesome Radiologists at Memorial to read the X-rays, and not days later.

I lived in Lamar all of my life and for every negative thing I read, I wonder if you take in to account how your blogs affect your community members? Why dont you spend more time trying to help stregthen our community so you can be proud of where you live. I bet if something happened to you or a family member you would have concerned phone calls, people wanting to help how ever the can.. try getting that in Colo Springs or Denver..there are pros and cons, but I choose to live in Lamar and feel we have a very caring hospital and filled with friends and loved ones who truly care for their patients.

It's interesting that this particular post is being addressed again at this particular time. Candy and Marge have spent this past year TRYING to address the issues that are mentioned above. And how far did they get? They are now facing a recall election that is supported (if not being lead) by the three men on the Hospital Board (Joe, Gene and Jan) as well as the PMC Administration. Will you all please support them if it comes to an election? Sad, isn't it....
