Houses that drive people mad

Many years ago (pre-internet), I read a psychiatric paper on "sick houses". the author's term for certain houses whose residents tended to become insane. He described particularly a house in Bath, England, whose reputation for this outcome extended back into the late 18th century. Pretty much it was a case that, if you lived in that house, then your next residence would be the local asylum.
Is anyone familiar with the paper I describe and can refer me to it? Or is anyone familiar with other research papers along similar lines? Thank you for any help.
