National Hospice Month a time for learning

There are 1 comment on the Carlsbad Current-Argus story from Nov 21, 2009, titled National Hospice Month a time for learning. In it, Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that:

Those who work in hospice care say it's not about dying, it's about living. Employees of Landsun Hospice are celebrating National Hospice Month by sharing information about hospice and all it has to offer those with a life-limiting illness and their loved ones.

I think the ladies with Landsun are wonderful, they sound very professional. I can say I have not had the same with another one of the hospice groups in town. This particular one, in my opinion, was unprofessional in how the worker developed a 'friendship' with the surviving widow and discouraged her from re-connecting with her family. I had many conversations with my friend, this widow, who said the hospice worker helped her 'balance her checkbook' and 'helped other patients balance their checkbooks'...she gave him money and i'm sure others did as well - real professional! What with all the retirees here, what a great way to get close to those who are fragile and remain 'friends' after their spouse has died. The best part is that, from what I understand from my friend, she changed her will to include a substantial inheritance to this man...what a lucky guy. The saddest part is that her family attempted to contact the hospice group to find out what the 'transition' process was once the hospice worker was done working for the family and her family also told the group their concerns about the employee - the hospice group never did anything to him and told the family that if he wanted to keep a relationship with the widow it was not against the rules!
