hi was benching today. warmed up went to 315 for 12 365 for 6 and then 405 for and 415 for 1. burned out on 315 but at rep 7 felt a shapr burning pain in my chest, went ahead and gutted 2 more. finished rest of work out real liight. hurts like hell on the outer part of my chest. i can move pretty good but it has me wondering if i tore my pec. a little help if you know about this kind of thing would be great. thanks

I tore my pec 11 weeks ago, while bench pressing. If you majorly tore your pec, you would have heard/felt a ripping or popping sound. You would see a defect in your pec, particularly around the armpit area. You may or may not have bruising and swelling. Also, you should not have been able to do 2 more reps with a major tear.

It sounds like you have a strain or very small partial tear that will heal on its own given time. Make sure you give it time! Don't lift with your chest again until the pain is gone...I to had a minor strain, shortly before actually tearing my pec. I rested my chest for 1 week, then started benching again, while still in mild pain, and tore my pec. I am having surgery in 3 days. I actually partially tore my pec, with about a 33% tear on the sternal head. I would much rather of not worked my chest for 1 month to allow it to heal.
