kidney cancer - skipping a CT test on doctor's recommendations ?

I have been diagnosed with kidney cancer. did surgery , and just did my half-year first post check.

There were enlarged lymph nodes , so they sent me to do CT. When i came to the oncologist with the CT, he said that the CT is wrong (i.e. without contrast) and is worthless. He said that we should do a contrast test in half a year.

When i asked why we are skipping the test , he said that CT has some radiation risk, so it better just to do it in half a year.

Does this make sense , or i should insist on a CT test ?
