I have been married for 8 years and very faithful to my husband.
But for the last couple years, every few months if we have sex right before my period or right after, I get a horrible sharp pain in my lower stomach and inside along my cervix. It is so bad it sends me into a cold sweat and it feels like childbirth!(I have 2 sons)
I have visited the GYN who brushed this off as nothing and said if it was a cyst, he would have been able to feel it while pressing on my stomach since I am so skinny(his words, not mine).
Could this be something serious? Should I get reexamined? I have not been to the GYN in 2 years since he told me it was nothing to worry about. But again this only happens ever few months.
any suggestions? Endometriosis runs in my family, and my mother had a hysterectomy because of it.

I will say from experience that its a cyst. Im skinny too, but sometimes the only way to make sure thats what it is you have to get an ultrasound or transvaginal test, painless. Lots of girls gets cysts every few months and they usually go away on their own, but if not they remove them. I had hormone probs from it too. As far as endometriosis, they will probably do exploratory surgery to rule that out. But if your periods arent horribly long or heavy, its probably not that.

This too has happened to me. It happens every couple of months. After sex, I experience a pain like no other. I've never given birth, but this pain i have felt is probably similar to it.I am unable to move, breathe, and this last time was so intense that i was throwing up.I am still experiencing uncomfortable pain whenever i move a certain way in my abdomin area. It's been three days and Im starting to get worried it might be something serious. The other times the pain went away within hours. Ive been reading other peoples experiences. Could this be a cyst? A few months back i told my gyno about the pain, and she didn't seem to think anything of it.

This happened to me for the first time last night. I'm going to start my period very soon, and after sex last night my abdomen hurt horribly. I was shaking and crying, and fighting against vomiting. I spent 20 min in a hot bath until it receded and I could crawl into bed. What's wrong with me??

I have experienced the same pains from time to time in the week leading up to my period. On Sunday night it got so bad it lasted for 8 hours and I had to go to hospital. They checked me out and came to no conclusion, but told me to abstain the week before my period and take pain killers. They admitted that they were unsure what the problem is. My concern is that I have had a HUGE swollen belly for 3 days now. If it doesn't go down soon I'm going straight back to the doctor. I wouldn't let this rest until you are happy and feel comfortable.

I am right now experiencing this pain in my lower abdomen after intercourse. While having sex, my significant other went really "deep" inside of me and there was a sharp pain for a second. About 2-5 minutes after sex I started getting horrible cramps...enough to make me want to throw up. It is now coming up to 3 hours. It feels like I have to go to the bathroom and when I try...nothing. It also hurts if I sit directly on my butt (I did not have anal sex. Please help! Is there something to help relieve the pain? How long does this last?

I have experienced this horrible pain about 3 times now. Every time it happened like ten minutes after sex. Don't know if it's a cyst either, but the pain is so sharp and relentless. No matter what I do, it doesn't go away. The pain feels like it's mostly in my uterus or ovaries, as well as my anal area. I feel like I have pressure in my abdomen, like I need to pass gas, but nothing can be done to relieve the pain. Usually within an hour it's gone, but the next morning I feel some residing pain if I bend over or stand up to quickly.

You need to get another doctor to look at you. My mom had endometriosis and it should hurt more often then when you have sex. I had a problem with cysts and I hurt all the time especially after sex around my period. Another doctor may want to remove them if they are giving you trouble.

This has happened to me about 5 times now. Straight after sex the pain starts and i cant move and feel like i need to be sick and heavy around my vaginal area, the pain is undescribable and i dont know what to do, i just have to wait till it passes and get a hot bath. Iv been to my doctor and he fobbed me off and iv also seen a sexual health nurse and she said it possibly could be the penis touching the cervix causing the cervix to contract. But if that was the case wouldnt it be happening to more woman. i dont know what to do.

this just happened to me recently. during sex he went in real deep and i had to make him stop because the pain was so bad. we switched positions and the pain was gone until about 10 min. after we finished the pain came back and was so bad i couldn't sit up. it's been 2 days now and i've been bloated since then but i should be starting my period any day now. i've read the other comments and there seems to be a pattern. maybe sex isn't a good choice the week leading up to your peroid?

i've experienced the very same last night. it has happened to me a few times since i've been with my husband for the past 7 years. my period is about a week away and sex was uncomfortable but not painful yet immediatly after i couldn't walk, i had a sharp constant stabbing pain in my lower abdomin. i went through a fury of hot and cold spells. i went through waves of extreme queeziness, i too felt like vomiting. i felt an urgent need to urinate and after several attempts only managed a few drops, even that was painful. it felt as if a bowling ball was attempting to exit through my vagina. i laid on my side and hugged a pillow and then the pain spread to my mid and lower back. at some point i had passed out in midst of my misery. this morning the pain was still present it wasn't as sharp unless i moved my body a certain way, this afternoon it has become dull but it's still around. i do not know what it is but i will be seeing my obgyn in about 2 weeks. i'll keep u posted.
p.s. i'm relieved i'm not the only one.

Reading this has made me feel a bajillion times better, just because now i know im not the only one who is experiencing this pain. Not enough people talk about this! Anyway so thursday night i had sex and it was pretty ruff. As soon as i got home i had my period and the next day i was in sooo much pain!! my uterus hurts a lot and feels heavy and i have cramps (i never normally have them). I started to think that my period was actually me bleeding from the sex.. It's now saturday night and its still hurting and i have been feeling pretty nauseous.
So i only have one question...

how much longer till the pain goes away??

I had the same problems ladies, and this is what was my problem...I had polycystic ovaries. Your body produces and "overload" of estrogen right before you start your period and it makes those acysts larger and you are "very tender"!. But when you are having intercourse, and really enjoying yourselves, your mate can rub the sensitive areas and make the swollen acysts sore. It feels like you are being cut open, stabbed, or a number of other sensations, none of them good. You will have pain afterwards, just like any other area that is "sore". Another thing, when your mate is thrusting insided you, one of the asysts could rupture and that is also extremely painful. I would not go to just any GYN...I went to a fertility specialist to get everything straightened out. He was amazing. I went to Dr. David McLaughlin in Indianapolis, Indiana. If you are near by, try him. He is an absolute Godsend. I pray for all of you ladies because I have walked in all of your shoes. May the lord show you the right physician specialist to go to so that you may have the healing hands to put you at ease. Good Luck Ladies!! I hope that my experience may help, if not all of you, atleast some. God Bless you!!

niki-
if it was not time for your period, you may have ruptured your hymen (a membrane that extends across the opening of your vagina) which is normal for the 1st time a woman is penetrated. if that doesn't seem right you should be able to discuss it with your doc over the phone free of charge--though he/she will most likely want to examine you...
