My friend keeps on coming to me and she keeps on saying see has a lot of knots in her back. She asks me to rub them out but i usually just give her a back rub and that makes her feel a little better. Does anyone know how i could find the knot's exact location and how to get rid of them? And could someone descibe how they feel? Not how they feel to the person that has them, how they feel to the person trying to get rid of them? In short, I want to know everything and anything about back knots. Please?
YOU WILL HAVE TO FEEL FOR THE KNOT AND ONCE YOU FIND IT, YOU WLL HAVE TO PUSH THE KNOT IN UNTIL IT STARTS GOING DOWN...IT'S GOING TO HURT A LOT BUT IKT WILL FEEL BETTER ONCE ITS DOWN

This is what my daughter is doing to my back when I ask her for a massage when my back hurts really bad and it works.

Agree 100% with LMT #3. Well put. When I was taught trigger point therapy, the method to release them was to ask the client on a scale of 10 to say when the pain reaches 6 or 7, press on the knot for 15 seconds, then release. Repeat if necessary. During a normal massage, if I feel a knot during initial effleurage I find that repeated firm manipulation without all the pain often works too. For someone working on themselves, the theracane works well, but also try a golf or tennis ball in a long sock, hold behind you and use the wall as support to roll the ball. There are hundreds of potential trigger points all over the body, there's a lot to learn in the myofascial release area, but wonderful when the client gets a release from pain.

So there seems to be some confusion that i would like to help clear up. Massage does not have to be painful to get results.

The more pressure you use, the quicker you will see results. you can have a painful experience and have amazing results after the massage.

You can also have a gentle relaxing session which after which you dont seem to really have gotten much benefit.

Ideally there is some compromise. You use enough pressure to get the "it hurts so good" feeling interspersed with less pressure for an overall wow i fell really good experience that also helps to alleviate the knots.

So, you can either speed up the process with more pressure. Or you can take longer with less pressure. Having him do some stretching before hand would really help to move things along. I would like to point out that your boyfriend can likely adjust his posture/movement patterns to decrease the severity or placement of the knots he seems to regularly be getting

Epsom salt baths are great to release trigger points in the back and other muscle tissue in the body. Fill tub with hot water(as much as you can stand) and add 4-6 cups of epsom salt. Sip plenty of water while soaking and try to stay in tub for atleast 30 mins. Also, if you want some useful massage techniques, log onto this website and take some affordable massage therapy coursework... www.nirvanamassagecenational.com .

Here's your answer: Shiatsu Massage Cushion! I leave it in my chair while I'm at work and it really helps my lower back.

When I lay on my back or even sit on the sofa or chair and lean back I fee like I am laying on Knots. You can't feel them when you rub my back. I only feel them when I lay back on anything. Or sometimes feels like one is there when I am walking. Very strange feeling and very uncomfortable.

Hey there, right shoulder gets sore if I am standing for a long extended period of time. Is this common if you have bad knots and tension in your muscles? I drum once a week and usually play for 4-5 hours with a break here and there. I hit hard and am an aggressive dummer. Could this be a reason for the shoulder discomfort as well?

OK LMT....I see you posted about 6 years ago but how the feck to you "teach" the CNS to release the tension.

What a load of cock and bull.

I have multiple knots in my upper back.

I have a massage 1-2 times a week including acupressure therapy and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference.

I love getting massages which is why I go and I tend to think I get the tension knots because of poor posture but your pseudo-scientific babble "theory" about "sending messages" to the CNS to release the tension, is, I'm afraid, utter nonsense.

I despise the way quack therapists like you can post with such "authority" and thus convince people with little medical knowledge that you ",must" be right when in fact, you are spouting a load of unproven, untested, unscientific, arbitrary BS.

Grrrrr.
