Absolutely not. That was illegal. That therapist and chiropractic center should be reported to the state board right away. It is situations like this, that makes Massage Therapy such a hard profession.
Ask yourself would you allow the chiropractor to adjust you in that spot. NO

I agree with Brian, that type of behaviour gives the massage industry a really bad name and makes in dangerous to work (how are we supposted to know if a client comes in acts normal then expects a happy ending?)
Though getting aroused during a normal massage can happen and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

I am a massage therapist, and that is by far illegal. No therapist should ever touch their client like that/ and burn is right it is giving this industry a bad namee!!!

I dont believe that for one minute and question Marks letter. Ive worked in that office setting for years and Rule # 1 the body is to be drapped by a sheet at all times, that was taught to me in
massage school. When working on the body only the body part to be massaged remains uncovered. Yes
the patient should but, does not have to be w/o
underwear to work on the glutes. Ive had male patients make passes at me and simply remove their hand and they get the message, but never reprimand them. I would never jeopardize my job.
I think Mark had a fell asleep and had a fantasy.

Mark, I'm not sure why people are making fun of you unless that's something people do on this forum (I've never been here before). And as for people saying it doesn't happen - yes, it does - and yes, it does give our profession a bad name.
You'd never had a massage before, so you didn't know what to expect. To review what some of the others have said, and add some comments of my own:
1) The massage therapist should *never* be in the room when the client gets undressed.
2) The only part of the body that's supposed to be uncovered during a massage is the part being massaged (leg, arm, etc.).
3) The client should have the option of leaving some or all of their clothes on during the massage. It is possible to give - and receive - a good massage that way. I've done it.
4) It's not acceptable to touch the genitals - at all. What you received was a sexual massage, not a therapeutic massage.
5) It does sometimes happen that a client will be sexually aroused during a massage, even when the genitals aren't being touched. Some clients might not even mention it; some might ask that the massage be stopped. Or the therapist might decide to stop the massage. How it's handled is up to the therapist and the client - but neither of them should use it as an excuse to turn the massage into a sexual one.
4. What happened to you is a violation of massage ethics and probably local prostitution laws as well. If you're comfortable with this, you should at least report it to whoever's running the chiropractic center (they should know that one of their staff members is basically practicing prostitution). If you don't feel comfortable with that, leave the local police an anonymous tip and let them investigate it.

I am appalled that you were treated in this way Mark. As a therapist, hearing stories like this infuriates me. I too am a therapist in Pa and unfortunately there are no laws or licensing in this state as far was massage is concerned. Being that you were in a professionaly enviornment, you should have felt safe and secure with no reservations. No wonder you are questioning these acts that you had to endure. I really hope you confront that chiropractor about your experience. That person should be fired immediately and get his certificate revoked.

I agree, this is not part of a traditional, legitimate massage in the United States. However, abroad they do not fear the mixing of the sensual with the massage of all areas of the body. Sensuality in a massage is not the same a sexuality.

Ken / Mark, you have nothing to be embarassed about. When I get a massage I'm not focussed on the practitioner at all. My eyes are generally closed. Over time, I've found that I prefer a male practitioner because I have found many female therapists are uptight about male arousal and avoid the inner thighs, groin, etc.

I go to one therapist that asks me to keep underwear on, but still does great work on the glutes, groin, etc. And yes, I do get an erection sometimes. I go to another that doesn't mind nudity and does massage my genitalia. I'm not gay and would never have sex with these men, but I enjoy the mix of relaxation and arousal.

What happened to you is wrong, but the issue with the case you described is communication. He assumed what you wanted instead of asking, and that was wrong. But you should not feel guilty (or gay) for getting hard or enjoying a hand-job. And all these people that are outraged should focus on communicating better what type of massage they're willing to do and mind their own business about other practitioners.

Hi Everyone,
By reading all these coments on what happened here,it seems that the type of massage offered for free was a full body sensual massage. This is done using the whole body of the therapist against the client...If this is not the case, then a the massage therapist (if this is what we want to call him) should be brought up on charges. He violated you Mark in a sexual manner and the last I heard, this is rape. Not to mention the ethics violations..I am sorry you had to experience this kind of behavior in the field. This sets us back a couple steps as massage therapists..
