Request advise on pulling molars

I am 60 years old. My molars are either crowned or full of fillings which are cracking. If my molars cannot last another 20 years, does it make sense to get them pulled now. I have been told it is hard to pull teething after 80 without damaging the bone.
I feel that my dentist is saying to me, "You won't live past 80 anyway", when he tells me to keep getting them filled or crowned.
