In early February, thousands of Croatian citizens managed to raise enough money in just over a week to make it possible for Nora A itum, a 5-year-old Croatian girl, to travel to the United States to receive treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Please read full story (hyperlinked above). Any decent human being will be touched by this, not only by Nora's heroic fight but also by the community support. Brought a tear to my eye, as it did to all of Croatia.
Corresponding with my cousins overseas, this is the stuff they send me. This is what affects them today.
