My aunt was diagnosed with this desease. I am interested if there is any treatment available in Europe, because I was told that the Lenalidomidom therapy is only available in the U.S. and is not available in Europe.
Here is the quote from her diagnosis (translated in English)
"All the findings show a picture of refractory anemia with hypocellular myelogram. Bone marrow biopsy showed hypocellular MDS without increased percentage of blast, with significantly reduced growth in the colonies predecessor. Located cytogenetic karyotype showed multiple abnormalities, with a clone deletion of 5q, with further evolution of the clone 5q- with del 12p, as well as several normal mitosis and normal mitoses with trisomy 8.
The patient has a problem with the application of transfusion, so in general she is bad transfused, because Hb (hemoglobin) is always about 70-80 g / l. "...
"The patient does not have signs of progression of the disease at the moment, but is transfusion dependent due to the typical cytogenetics and evolution of clone 5q -.
The only treatment for patient at this time is a continuous substitution of concentrated red blood cells, and about 2 doses of concentrated red blood cells in about 2 weeks or 3-4 month are needed"
She is 68 years old and generally didn't get much from transfusions .
If anyone could help providing information of treatment I would be deeply gratefull.
