Jondi Gumz, Reporter at Large: Geriatrics specialist heads Santa Cruz Medical Society
#1 Sep 17, 2008
What Santa Cruz County needs is more doctors like O'Grady who won't accept new Medicare patients. As more physicians jump on the O'Grady bandwagon, we may be able to drive everyone on Medicare to the more expensive non-rural counties and turn Santa Cruz into the home of the young.
Of course, with no oldtimers around, Dr. O'Grady might have to move with them.
Geriatics: The branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and problems specific to the aged.
Dr. Heel, heal thyself of greed.

I am a registered dietitian and I have had the pleasure to work at the side of Christopher O'Grady, MD at Watsonville Community Hospital. While the interview reflects his practicality and the limits placed on physicians by the health care system, the article does not express his top-notch clinical skills, his artful communication, his harmonious relationships with other physicians and staff, and overall respect in as a geriatric physician.
