If you've ever been out of the country I'd try checking for parasitic infections such as schistosomiasis. Most doctors as well as labs are not equipped to diagnose the condition as it is mainly a 3rd world country disease (second only to malaria). Go to an infectious disease specialist. Send blood work to the CDC only - every other lab will not give you proper results. Most urine and stool samples turn up negative even if you have it.

Depending on the type of fluke depends upon where it invades your body. Mine first affected my liver, appendix, and gastrointestinal tract, then moved to bladder, pancreas, and spleen, and lastly to my brain (blackouts and memory loss). Pain was unbearable for over a decade and my body still isn't back to normal even after treatment.

Seriously, go to an infectious disease specialist. I went to over 60 doctors, had MRI's, CT scans, ultrasounds, blood tests–you name it, I had it done to me and every test came out normal with a few mild oddities in my blood work. If you think something is physically wrong with you, it is. Don't stop looking. Most doctors I've come in contact with in this country are a joke. Read all the medical journals you can get your hands on and find a competent doctor who does not give up on finding a proper diagnosis.

And yes, 90% of the population has parasites in their body. They are the cause of most allergies and food intolerances. Most can be cleared up with over the counter remedies, but flukes are an entirely different story and can only be killed with a dose of chemo (taken in pill form).

I have also had pain in the right upper abdominal area for six months. I have seen several specialists starting with gastrointestinal (GI) doc who performed an upper GI and a colonoscopy which were both normal. I then woun up in the ER with pain in the abdominal area and rotating to the back, shoulder, hip and thigh. I was thinking kidney problems and so was the ER doctor and sent me home with antibiotics after an ultrasound and blood tests. I saw my primary care doc, she orders more blood tests and a more comprehensive ultrasound checking for pancreatitis and gallbladder inflammation, all were normal. Then I saw a hemotologist who ordered an abdominal CT scan, again all normal. Endocrinologist ordered more tests, all normal. Then back to my primary doc with continued increasing pain. She checks pain level in my abdomen and in my back and we discover that it is my back, actually my ribs on the right side that are hurting. She orders x-rays which are completely normal. Then she orders a bone scan, which I had completed today. I am awaiting results. My advice to all here is check your bones. You may be having "referred" pain from another area opposite to where you feel the pain coming from. That is what is happening to me.

Hi all,
I've scheduled yet another appointment with the doctor as I have now been for visits 4 times and haven't been given an answer for what's going on with me. I know that these forums can be very helpful so i thought I'd give it a try.:)
For the last 3-4 months I've been experiencing some very painful symptoms. Beneath both sides of my rib cage I started feeling a dull ache that has now developed into such a pain, especially on the left side, that I cannot sleep on that side at night. My stomach is always very bloated to the point of pain, and if I press down on my right side (about midway between my rib cage and hip) it hurts horribly. I've also started to get very bad pain in my lower back and sides and stomach spasms, which seem to be worse if I cough or sneeze (the area will spasm for about 5 minutes). The latest symptom to show up is very black tarry stool *very sorry for the T.M.I.*. The pain on my sides, lower back, and beneath my ribs in beginning to interfere with my life. Also, I don't know if it's related, but I've been suffering with shortness of breath and dizzy spells.
If anyone has even a clue as to what this could be I would be so grateful. I know that we cannot diagnose someone over the internet, but I'm hoping that maybe someone will recognize the symptoms and can point me in the right direction since my doctor is just not taking me very seriously.
Thank you!
Hope you've got it sorted sounds like your liver, i have the same problem. I'm awaiting tests.

I wasn't feeling right ever since Spring arrived. I do have allergies and had some stomach discomfort. The doctor said that when the sinuses drain to the back of the throat into your stomach, causing upsets. You can get quite sick. But aside from that, and in addition to allergies, I was feeling really unwell this week. I usually have walnuts and almonds in my cereal each morning. This morning I had about 5 walnuts and 6 almonds. I smash them up a bit before eating, but I noticed after 2 hours, I began to have stomach pain right under the breastbone. Had abdominal cramping too. The pain began to intensify over the next few hours. I could barely tolerate it. My daughter thought that I might be having an allergy attack from the nuts. I started to have pain in my left shoulder blade too and then discomfort in the middle of my back. I've had a few of these episodes in the past, but not nearly as bad as this one. I was suppose to have a gallbladder test a few years back - the one where they inject a dye into your arm - which I refused. I'm beginning to believe that I had a major gallbladder attack. This is the 3rd one now. I might consider having it removed. My grandmother was 80 when she had a severe gallbladder attack. A neighbor found her on the floor screaming in pain. They rushed her to the hospital and did emergency surgery. Unfortunately for her, they had to do it like they did before laparoscopy came out. She had a huge long incision. She was in a lot of pain, but she survived it. I don't want to have to go through that. That's why I may consider having it removed.

Does anyone have an update on their "pain on right side lower rib/hip" area????
Look up "psoas muscle"- this is what could be causing all your problems. Look up symptoms of it and you'll see that it is what you are describing. A good massage therapist/chiro/physical therapist can help.

nuts are almost al fungal except for almonds ,but then if they smell stale oil dont eat them.they tend to cause pain as described by venus.tea without milk will cause similar pain green tea very fungal will cause itchy and running eyes.black tea is also fungal but les then green tea.dry fruits will cause unfluenza and list goes on for ever.dry herbs most of them fungal.fungal foods build up toxic gases in the gut,no doctor can help you but yourself.

I am 33 and for a week now I have had this pain in my right side and my stomach seems to be swollen. The pain seems to be under my right rib cage area and really hurts if i press on it or lay on that side. More towards the night it seems to get worse and my back starts cramping so bad.I don't recognize the pain from anything before. I had my Gul bladder removed last year and my tubes were tied four years ago. I have had a cyst on my ovaries before but that pain seemed to be worse than this. Going to the Dr. Monday. Please feel free to give me any Ideas:)

Hope you're feeling better asap Carol. Nothing seems to matter in this world unless we are feeling our best. You'd think your doctors would know something by now, from all of the tests you've had. My pain is gone. I don't know if it was because of some of the food I was eating (nuts). Someone on this thread said that certain foods have fungal issues, like nuts, tea, etc. I am highly sensitive to mold, so it's quite possible I was experiencing an allergy attack. I stopped eating nuts for a few weeks and the abdominal pain and bloating went away. I started eating walnuts again, but only one or two, and I crush them into tiny pieces. Haven't had any problem. Now I'll try one almond to see if that gives me any problems. Just prior to the pain I was having, I was eating too many nuts at one time. Moderation is the key I suppose. Fiber is good, but too much at one time can also cause bloating and pain I guess.

Anyway, good luck to you Carol and hope you find the cause and relief of your pain.:)

Hi all. I've been advised not to google to address my symptoms (by the fiancee), but it helps to know others are out there.

I'm at the beginning of this. I've had dull ache below the ribs on the right side on and off for years. Seemed to have come after big meals, then go away after a few hours, but I also go them at times when I haven't had big or fatty meals.

A week ago, I was lifting a heavy box and my back went out. Soon after I had tons of symptoms: clamminess, chills, headache, tense neck, etc. but no abdo pain (yet). A few days later, after a pizza buffet (I know), I had the pain again. I never used to worry about it except this time it hasn't gone away, and is now spreading to the flank and the lower back. I'm also starting to feel it on my left side as well, just below the rib cage. I'm convinced me actually "thinking and stressing" about it exacerbates it. Just for the record, I've also been diagnosed with GERD. Also I've had typical IBS symptoms (going back and forth between diarrhea and constipation) for most of my adult life and just thought that was normal haha.

Had an appointment with the PCP five days ago, who felt tenderness in the abdomen and thinks it might be gall stones. Having an Ultrasound on Monday. I also wonder if it is a pulled muscle, ligament, etc., as I've had this problem when I've played basketball at times as well. The point is none of us really knows. I'll keep everyone posted (or at least try).
