I've been really interested to read all your posts. I have awful pains in my sides, lower back and around my ribs for about 6months. The pain is there nearly all the time, it eases more when I lie down. I can't say there is any change in my bowel movements, maybe slightly consitpated. The pain was so bad last month that I went to A&E I was admitted to hosptial, I had a CT scan, gastroscopy and Colonscopy but could not find anything wrong. Although that is good news I still have no answer to what is causing the pain. It's getting me down now and my GP want to put me on Anti depressants!! I was wondering if it's IBS? I have read that the can from IBS can be very bad?? Can any help me??

I've had these exact symptoms and went to the hospital and they did the same tests and saw nothing. I'm scheduled now to see the gastrointestinologist on march 1st for the nuclear testing of my gall bladder functioning and intestines. Nobody in this forum seems to have any diagnosis ideas. Hmmm maybe we should all make up a name for our "new" disease!

The DR's(Gastroenologists) make me feel asthough I'm crazy.Iv'e had colonoscopy (normal),tube down throat into stomache,(normal) upper & lower GI(normal).Yet the pain continues in left side, constipation(for which I add a cap full of Mylanta powder to 8 ounces of water)this helps to have the bowel movement,Stomache cramping, and feeling tired all the time,They say nothing is wrong with me.Pain is continuous!!

My 10 yr. Daughter is having kind of the same problem, her stomach bloats and she farts and burps this nasty smell she has even had vomitting with it. The pain got so bad she asked me if she was going to die. She is now seeing a ped specialist and the are scoping her on 2-23-12. I hope to have some answers soon.

a few years ago I had pain in my right side and in my back, and if I ate more than a saucer size I would have to sit up all night with pain in my abdomen and right accross my back, so I was quite a small person but I took a lot more weight off as could not eat much. My doctor gave me a kidney test but they were fine and then after suffering for a while he gave my an ultra sound accross my stomach and under my right ribs, it was found that I had 10 big square shaped stones, in my Gallbladder, had to have key hole surgery. and the pain went, and I could eat more again, but have kept on a low fat diet some of the time.
Now 8 years later, I have pain under left ribs, and sometimes under right ribs, but mostly under left ribs and it gets sore when I lye down on that side. And I get a bloated stomach and lots of wind and belching so am on Losec 40 mgs one every night and now dont have much wind.I am going to get the camera put down into my stomach in a week ot 2, so hope they dont find anything too horrible.I am 63 years old and have been not so active since the death of my husband 5 years ago.But I do get constipation so take laxatives a few times a week, and I think these pains under my left rib is coming from my stomach and also my bowel, thats why I try not to get constipated, so there is not much build up, but who knows what our insides look like! But I hate it when I am bloated and I look like a pregnant Woman!I have started to eat lots of fruit every morning and lessen my bread each day, and I have a raw salad every day with some lightly cooked vegetables, and very little meat. And I take smaller meals now.But still will have to get my bowel looked at again, last time they saw I had difituculitus, well I have spelt that wrong sorry but you maybe able to guess, it is little pockets found in the bowel most people get them over 60, and usually dont give any symptons, but sometimes they can flare up , but I do not think it is flaring up with me I think I have an ulcer or an inflamed stomach or bowel.

Mark, Has there been any result to this? I can't find a follow up reply. Thanks!

Interesting. Having exactly the same issue as some on here right now. Last month I started having pain top left side of abdomen, right where the ribs meet the abdomen. Went to docs and he said I was 'full of wind', so he put me on peppermint IBS medication to break the wind down.
Three days back though, my stomach swelled dramatically, and as a poster above said, I looked pregnant. Phoned NHS direct and they advised me to see my GP the following morning. Went to see him and he advised me to take Actimel twice a day, as the 'bad' bacteria were taking over my intestines, and I needed to replenish my 'good' bacteria.
He said the left sided pain was because the bend of the large intestine, which descends right where my pain is, is straightening out, because it is being blown up by the gas.
I've been on Actimel now for two days, and will let you know if it does any good. i'll bookmark this and let you know in a month.
What I can't understand is why the gas doesn't just, ahem, escape, you know? lol. Why is it staying trapped in there?

I was wondering if any of you guys writting about your pains, ever had a colonoscopy or gastroscopy done. You can suffer from IBS, or UC (Ulcerative colitis) or Crohn's desease. If your stoll is black most probably you have a bleeding intestine which means that you need urgent attention. Black stool sometimes is because you may have some sort of inflamed diverticulitis, or ulcerative colitis or colon cancer. But colonoscopy is needed. I read also about the pain in the left side under the rib cage and some inflamation. That could be pancreatitis which is painful and needs immediate attention.
The right side pain under the rib could be gallblader stones CT scan of the blader and pancreas conduct will tell. Pain in the lower back with front diffusion (painful urination, lack of urination, pain in the lower side quadrants under your bellie is a probable stone or stones in your kidney or in the urinary track.

I have been suffering from Stomach and lower back pain about a week ago after having a slice of peperoni pizza I started with a bad pain right below my belly and all night i was throwing up! after not having nothing in my stomach i kept throwing up just water and yellow stuff!
it has been almost two weeks with this pain? I don't have Health insurance after being laid off for about a year!! so I went to a particular clinic and doctor said it looks like my colon is very irritable that's why i am in so much pain. so they will run some blood and urine tests! I had this problem before almost 8 years ago! and running lots of tests it was just nerves and lots of stress...... mmmmmh.....

I've been having pains under my right rib cage for about 8-9 months now. Being as hardheaded as i am i finally went to my doctor about a month ago. So far i've had the Ultrasound and a Hida Scan. Both have left me in the same place i have been in from the beginning. It gets really bad when i sit at a table or sitting up and down in any chair. My dumb doctor is trying to convince me that it's heartburn. I know what heartburn feels like... thank you. Now that it's swollen its getting even more uncomfortable. If anyone knows anything please let me know.([email protected]) Thanks!

Hello every one. I have been suffering the same symptoms for about 5 months. It's horrible. It start with a slight pain right below my left rib area...the pain starts to progress and travel to my upper back below my shoulder blade. The pain gets so severe that it's accompanied by cold sweats and vommiting. I've notice that this occurs only after I've eaten saucy things...like pasta or salsa dip. Whats going on with my body?

Hello to all....as I'm typing this I am on a hospital bed. I was admitted today. I went to the er with severe pain below my left rib cage as described above. After having x rays done and an ultrasound done...the dr found my gallbladder filled with stones and a stone blocking my large intestine...I will be having surgery really soon to have my gallbladder removed as well as the stone in my intestine. The stone blocking my intestine is not allowing the bile that my gallbladder produces to pass through the intestine to break up the fat from foods I eat...therefore the bile is backing up into my liver and blood stream as well. ; ( well everyone wish me luck.

Hi Christa, in light of having to have a mastectomy it would probably be a wise idea to go to your Dr. I know you're afraid but some of those symptoms sound similar to Stomach Cancer. I know it's a scary thing but your not going isn't making the pain go away either or the problem whatever it is. If it is something serious it's better to catch it early on. I too have been having the same problem as most of you but have had no luck with any answers either.
