I'm a 27 year old female with very inconsistent bowel movements. I will go 2-4 days with diarrhea and then the next 2-4 days without a bowel movement. This has been happening for about a year, although it has gotten worse over the past 4 months. Along with this comes uncontrollable gas, upset stomach and some nausea. My family has a history of polyps and colon cancer. I have seen a gastroenerologist who has recommended both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. I have scheduled both procedures, but they are rather expensive. Based on my symptoms, what would be the benefit of having both procedures? Is the endoscopy really necessary? I eat a vegan diet, but my symptoms do not seem to change based on the amount of dairy or wheat that I have in my diet. Any advice would be appreciated!
