Woman's death after liposuction raises concerns
“When you injure your knee, you would go see an orthopedic surgeon because they are trained in orthopedic surgery and because no one else in their right mind would do orthopedic surgery on you”
The case of a Toronto woman who died after having liposuction is raising concerns about doctors who are performing cosmetic surgery procedures despite not being licensed as plastic surgeons. via CTV.ca

That's a lame response. Many fatal things can happen from any type of surgery, from liposuction to facial reconstruction to whatever. As patients, we all know the risks and are informed of them prior to undergoing the procedure. This death is sad, but the doctor is question has more experience in performing Liposuction than many other doctors, plastic surgeon or not. She's done thousands. Plastic surgeons don't have formal training in liposuction. Did you know that?

Surgery By Surgeons!. Just because someone went through medical school does not mean they can or should perform surgery. Does medical school prepare you to perform brain surgery? And it does not prepare you to perform plastic surgery. This Toronto "Cosmetic Surgeon" was not selected by her teachers to enter an approved training program in surgery when she graduated from medical school. She did not enter into an approved surgical training program when she graduated from medical school. And she never gained the intricate technical training that is provided in an approved post medical school surgical training program. Doctors NOT trained in approved post medical school surgical training programs to do surgery MUST be stopped from performing surgery NOW. Call your legislatures today.

How the hell do you know that she has done thousands of liposuctions Tom?
The device that may have been used was just approved for use in Canada in June. Press releases went out to hype her clinic and the new laser. How do you know that the laser technique that was probably used was not the problem. What about the fact that there were no negative side effects reported in that press release. This doctor needs a good lawyer, and so does the company that made the laser, if that was the device that she used. |

I agree with Tom. Any medical procedure has its risks. If a patient dies it isn't always the doctor's fault -- any patient can die during a procedure (it isn't common but it can happen).
I am not defending the doctor. I am just trying to defend realism. The other thing we should realize that liposuction isn't a surgery. Most surgeons will tell you that there isn't much to it. Finally, Tom is right. Plastic surgeons don't get formal liposuction training either (not always). You don't have to be a surgeon to do liposuction. Since abdominal liposuction ISN'T surgery -- it's a procedure. Nothing technically difficult about it. If you consider it surgery then I guess you also consider a family doctor suturing your cut finger surgery too (which it isn't). |

dr.Yazdanfar is not a surgeon at all(eather plastic or cosmetic),she is a family doctor. She should be restrain of doing those procedures.

hope dr. Yazdanfar will stop her practice soon.
College of physicians and surgeons of Ontario will make those changes soon. Dr.Yaz ,you have to get your lisence firstAnd also, please, believe in karma |

How do YOU know that she done thousands of liposuction?I just suspect that you are someone who is working for her. |

In the US you only need a medical license to practice surgery. There's no such thing as a licensed "surgeon" in any state, only doctors. The government doesn't distinguish between trained surgeons and family doctors. Plastic surgeons regulate themselves through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (www.abms.org). Non-board-certified doctors get away with it because of public ignorance .

I agree, Ray, people don't know all of that. Also I think this surgeon in New York, not Toronto. The patient was from Toronto.
Some other good places to check for doctor information are your state medical boards and www.trustedsurgeons.com . Educate yourself! |

Aha,i 've seen her in a bad mood.
If a person feels he can't communicate, the least he can do is shut up about it (it's about her, honestly) |

Look, it's her own fault she's dead. She was to lazy (and fat) to do it the old fashion way, "EXSERCIZE" damit, end of story....
Let her death be a lesson to the rest of you fat over weight beasts. Stop stuffing your faces with crap... |
