The Urgent Care Association of America ( ) announces approval of the first ever Fellowship in Urgent Care Medicine. This fellowship is the result of collaboration between the Department of Family Medicine University Hospitals of Cleveland / Case School of Medicine, the Urgent Care Association of America, and University Primary and Specialty Care Practices, Inc. in Cleveland, OH. The program is partially funded by an unrestricted grant of $30,000 from the Urgent Care Association of America. The fellowship has received unanimous approval by the Graduate Medical Education Committee of University Hospitals of Cleveland.

The fellowship is the first specific urgent care training program of its kind in the USA. It represents an innovative approach to provide the specific training necessary to meet the demands of one of the fastest growing medical specialties—Urgent Care Medicine. This will mean physicians for the first time will be able to get systematic graduate training in urgent care medicine prior to become better prepared for the unique challenges of serving the public in urgent care centers.

The Association’s Academic Committee has taken great pains to identify core competencies unique to and/or essential to the practice of Urgent Care. These core competencies include, but are not limited to:
* Orthopedics,
* Occupational Medicine,
* Injury Care,
* Wound Management,
* Adult Emergencies / Urgencies,
* Pediatric Emergencies / Urgencies,
* Transfer Issues,
* Office Procedures,
* and other aspects of Urgent Care Medicine.

The one-year fellowship in urgent care medicine is currently open only to graduates of accredited Family Medicine and Med/Peds residencies.

I am Board certified in Anesthesiology and have 5 years urgent care experience. Why wouldn't I qualify for the fellowship? Don't ER MDs qualify either?
