Do statins lower cholesterol?

I am 46 and have taken statins for high cholesterol for 8 years. Two years ago, after complaining about fatigue and low libido, my doctor checked my testosterone levels, which turned out to be very low. After ruling out cancer in the hypothalamus I began testosterone therapy.
After a year of testosterone therapy my PSA levels shot up, after which I ceased testosterone therapy and was tested for prostate cancer. Thankfully, I did not test positive for cancer.
My testosterone has once again dropped to below 100.
My urologists suggests that it is very risky to resume testosterone therapy due to the PSA response.
Now I am looking for alternatives and a link between statins and low testosterone keeps popping up on the web. What I have not seen is any direct evidence of cause and effect. Any insight?
