About two weeks ago a small red mark appeared on my leg - was probably only 5mm x 5mm and darkish red. I didn't have time to get to the doctors until this week and by that time it had completely changed shape. It had kind of split in two and formed a circular shape although it wasn't a perfect circle.

The dr's first instinct was ringworm so he gave me some antifungal cream and sent me home. The next day I woke up and found a red blotchy rash on the tops of my thighs - the rash was raised but not at all itchy. Looked red and blotchy and surrounded by lighter patches.

I went back to the dr and he did some blood tests to test for parvo and strep (both came back negative). Over the next couple of days the rash got worse and spread to my uppper and lower arms, hands and face although it's not quite as bad as the rash on my legs.

Over the next day it spread to my lower legs, stomach, feet and buttocks. The only place is hasn't spread to so far is my back.

The spots on my lower legs look slightly different - whereas on my thighs they are more blotchy, the marks on my legs are darker and more like individual spots.

I was referred to the emergency centre yesterday and they took two biopsies, one from the original mark and one from the rash so I'm waiting for those results now.

Otherwise I am well - I have no other symptoms which seems to confuse the dr's even more. Obviously it's fairly distressing as no-one seems to know what the problem is and it just seems to be getting worse.

It's impossible for me to wear shorts as the rash on my legs is so bad. Also having it all over my cheeks is also pretty hideous.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar...?

Did you ever find out what type of rash it was. My daughter seems to have something similar yet. I plan on taking her to the doctors but i have a feeling he might say its ring worm but i dont think it is.

7days ago my leg started itching while i was driving. In about 8 minutes the rash had spread to my forearms and all down the back of my legs. I took some bennedryll and went on with my day. Later that evening I noticed that they were increasing in numbers. I went to the doctors after 4days because I developed a bad cough and shortness of breath. they tested me for strep and it was negative. they prescribed me prednisone. I have now had this for 7days and they seem to come and go throughout the day with being all over me and then fade to about 50%. Does anyone know what this could be?

Mine turned out to be vasculitis, I probably had it for around a month and a half before it started to die down and then it just disappeared. I still have some marks on my lower legs and two scars from where they took the biopsies. They have no idea what caused it to come on so aggressively, I'm just glad it disappeared again. Hopefully anyone reading this with a similar problem will have some hope that there may be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel...!

You may have keratosis Pilaris, see a dermatologist about it, they can recommend a cream to help break down the excess protein your skin may be creating.

@Cookie.... I have the same exact kind of rash you describe. I have been told its Vasculitus, Purpura, Ringworn and something called Circulatitis (I think that's how it's spelled). Something having to do with blood circulation. The dermatologist said Purpura first and gave me a cream. Went back a couple days ago and now he says its Circulatitis. He never even did a biopsy. I wish he would have so I could know for sure. I'm already on many meds. Let me know if you find any new info. Thanks for sharing.

Please.... If anyone else who has posted re: non itchy rash (which looks like ringworm) has any new info to share,, please do!!!! It's making me really nervous. And the dermatologist in seeing doesn't seem to be sure what it is but has no problem prescribing meds for something he has changed twice. Thanks also for sharing!!!!

Hi Charlie - if you scroll up you'll see my post from September 2011, basically they decided it was vasculitis but they had no idea why it came on so aggressively and couldnt suggest anything to treat it except time!(not what you want to hear wheb youre covered in it though...) My GP had speculated that it was vasculitis before they took biopsies in the ER so they weren't really necessary (and cost about $600!) but I guess it was good to know for sure. It took a month and a half to disappear completely, then about a year ago I had the same thing happen again, but not on quite such a large scale. Exactly the same thing in that it started with a circular red mark on the same leg in almost the same spot and then started spreading to both legs. That lasted about a month and then disappeared, so I wonder if it's just one of those things that can reoccur.

Hi all,

I've been googling this extensively since yesterday...I'm so worried. I went to the doctor because I have rashes on my legs, big ones near my knees and smaller circular ones on my outer thighs.

I originally thought it was ring worm because if the circular shape and the skin in the middle of the ring is fine.

He didn't know what it was. He would not give me any medication and had me do blood work instead. He explained that it could be a number of things including cancer. On the blood work requisition he wrote he's checking for autoimmune problems or mycosis fungoides. That is a type of cancer. I googled images of that and it looks similar to what I have.

It's rare, it affects twice as many men as women and usually men over 40. I'm a 28 year old woman.

I'm just wondering if anybody has had any experience with this? I've never been so worried in my life :(

I have small circles all over my legs & thighs. They don't itch; don't bother me at all except they are an eyesore. I went to a dermatologist who did a biopsy as she first suspected vasculitis. That was ruled out and she said it was a superficial allergic reaction and suggested that I take Allegra. It has not helped at all. I'm embarrassed to show my legs. I plan to try another dermatologist because this has to end.

Hi, I'm having that problem now. Woke up to less red small marks, so I changed the bed sheets and blanket and washed it in hot water, and all day I was busy and played Poker until midnight. When I took off my jeans, the red small marks doubled, thats when I'm worried. This happened before and went away... Is their any chance is bed bugs or superbug??? Confused and the health center are too. What to do? taking a warmer shower now.
