Let me give you a little background. I am a 23 year old female. Currently on birth control(cesia) and I smoke cigarretes. I have a 7 month old son. Since about 12 weeks post pardom I have been having abnominal cramping and constipation. I was diagnosed with Irritable bowel syndrome. About 3 days ago I noticed a lump in my lower leg on my calf under the skin. It is hard, round, sometimes red, 1/4" and sensitive to touch. Today I just noticed another lump on my other calf. They seem to be more prominent at night. Has anyone ever experience this before?

Since February, 2006, we have experienced itching especially at night. I have noticed almost clear, red, and black "things" on our skin, the size of a pinpoint. I have seen them in my 3 year olds stools and in our hair when we wash it. We are itching in our faces (eyelids, around mouth, behind earlobes), arms, between fingers, behind shoulder blades, upper buttocks)...they also bite hard. Our 8 year old wakes up with mosquitoe like bites on his legs. We have had an exterminator three times and have even moved but are still experiencing these things that seem to fly into your face from wooden cabinets, paper...What is this and how do we treat it? PLEASE HELP US.

Have you gone to your doctor about this? You are at risk of developing blood clots while on birth control and I do believe that smoking puts you at even more of a risk. The fact that you have painful lumps that turn red, sounds like something that should be looked at by a professional. If it is a blood clot it could be life threating and needs immediate attention. I hope you are ok.

28 Year old Female - no known allergies - not on any otc or presriptions drugs. Woke up one morning with tiny pin point red dots on arms, mostly lower arms. They itch like poison ivy. But no way it could be that.

Next day I noticed a few lumps on my legs...red ..itchy....hurt like bruises. They're hard. One is really big. They are like half dollar size and swollen.

I've gotten all types of suggestions ..spider bites, hives...? Help.

Sounds familiar....I know this is way after you wrote, but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyways. Do they tend to form kinda on your shin bone? It sounds like it could be erythema nodosum. Sounds scary, but all it is is an inflamation of the fatty layer under your skin. It can have a variety of causes (birth control being one) or no known cause. I had them on several different forms of BC, but now I'm using nuvaring and haven't had anymore. They aren't dangerous....merely annoying. Check w/your gyno to see if your BC is high dose estrogen. Mine were worse on higher estrogen BC, plus, you really shouldn't be on a high dose if you smoke...increases chances of blood clots and whatnot.

I had a lump on my right leg it started out a size of a dime and got larger then a 1/2 dollar - then got one on the other leg this one was on the outside part of the leg the right leg one was surgecily removed - the left leg had two biopsies done to it - i was on a medication called carbatrol and the first lump showed up about the time i started taking 1 pill a night regualarly. i stopped taking the medicane and now i have a new lump. the first 2 were called erythema nodosum so i'm going to assume that is what this one is too - its not bother some at one point the other one would get very hot to the touch but my nuerologist wants blood work done to confirm what its from. Just anyother thing i have to deal with - and i don't smoke and i'm not on BC pills

My Fiancee (21) recently developed strange bumps on his hands and feet, they are mainly red with black dots under the skin at the head of the bump. They are very sensitive to touch, but there doesnt appear to be any pus under the skin except for the ones that have been irritated by scratching. We've been to the doctor and curretly are waiting on bloodwork results, but im nervous as the doctors (the 4 that saw him) have no clue what it could possibly be. He's recently started taking Cipralex (anti-depressant) so I'm wondering if it might just be an allergic reacation to that, but I havent found any inames online that come close to matching what he has... help?

I am currently having the same problems with the lumps. I just started taking Yasmin a birthcontrol a little over two weeks ago...The lumps are starting to multiply and the two on my ankles are making it hard to walk....let me know if you find a cause.

I have one lump on both legs in the exact same spot. That spot is on the the outside of the shin bone area about halfway down the outside of the lower leg.
Any ideas? Not itchy, not red, not sensitive to touch. Is easy to push on , feels like a fluid filled sack.
male, 36, healthy, non-smoker, no meds.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Go to your doctor about any skin lumps. These kind of things are difficult to diagnose on the internet. Don't just let lumps sit there or grow, esp. if they are sore or inflammed.

So much talk about erythema nodosum! If you need to get accurate info and talk to our more than 1450 EN members come to our free erythema nodosum yahoo group:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erythema...
I've had chronic EN since 1968. I am idiopathic and that means that no cause has been found, but there are approx. 100 known triggers. Let us help you discover yours, or at least learn the best ways to deal with EN.
Best regards,

those sore black bumps you have may be caused by ingrown hairs!!! very true. that would explain the lack of puss, and pain. Probably even the way that you squeeze them and nothing comes out. but i wouldnt worry about the shyness because doctors have seen worse!

Hi Erin,

I'm not a doctor, but my father in law is and he was helpig me with a similar problem, he said one "lump in leg" problem could be this:

"Erythema Nodosum… a reaction in the fat that causes a bruise like reaction and tenderness in the leg associated with drugs like the birth control pill and infection.(Usually larger and deeper often affects both legs) "

When you mentioned that the same thing happened in both legs and that you're on birth control, I wonder if that's what's going on? Good luck! and please don't smoke near your baby.
Thanks.

That's so wierd because i just typed in a search for my symptoms and this came up. You're not alone. Every summer i get these hard swollen bumps/lumps on my legs. They hurt like bruises and get really big if i mess with them. And sometimes they leave scars. Most people think they're spiderbites??? Some have said bacterial infection from something after you shave. That has always seemed logical... has this happened after shaving?

I am a 40 year old woman who has been suffering from a lump on my calf. I have had three lumps now. I only get one at a time. They are hard and sore to the touch. They range in size from a nikel to a quarter. My doctor said it is like I have had truama to my leg. I have never had any though. He said there is no treatment. he told me to use a heating pad twice a day. I have never smoked or used birth control. The doctor never gave me a name. I cannot remember it if he did. I just saw him May of 07.

My 80 year old husband is having a problem with his right lower leg. It feels warm to hot to him though not to the touch. It is worse at night. It doesn't appear to have any lumps or marks on it.
