First a picture:
http://homepage.mac.com/nemesis_256/dryskin.j... This started way back around March of this year. First I tried putting hand lotion on it to moisturize it, but all that did was temporarily get rid of the flakes. A few months later, I got mad enough about it, so I looked up about similar problems online, and I found out about Aquaphor Healing Ointment. This stuff works, and my skin gets 100% back to normal, but when I stop using it, the dry skin comes back. So now I need another solution, I don't want to have to use this cream for the rest of my life. I've got two other creams, but I don't know if they'll do anything good. They're antifungal cream (active ingredient is 1% tolnaftate) and triple antibiotic ointment (bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin b). Would these help? Would anything else help? |

Well it seems there's no replies yet, but here's an update.
I tried those two other creams I have. The antifungal one dried out quickly, and made my skin very itch. It also got it white (dry) wherever I applied it. So I cleaned off that stuff quickly. The other one had no effect immediately, but the next morning when I woke up the skin was drier than it should be . It had a similar flaky look, with maybe a bit more flakes. Should they not do this, or do I kinda need it to flake up so it all falls off? |

Mine started in October. It is only on my eyes. I thought it was from using cheap makeup but I stopped putting anything on my eyes and it's the same and sometimes worse. My left eye is worse with red, dry, flaky and inflamed skin under the eye and on the eyelid. What can I do? I have no idea and I can't afford to go to the doctor to find out what it is.

1 Exactly, and it can be treated with rubbing alcohol / witch hazel and for some people, mineral spirits. Ask at the drug counter. |

I have the red, flaky, dry skin right around my nose, really just in the crease where it attaches, but occasionally it spreads a little & I look like I have a red ring under my nose. It's been this way for more than a year, so I may have to see a dermatologist, but I have started using the first person's (Patrick) triple anti-bio ointment & for 2 days now, it seems to be getting a little better. We definitely have SOME kind of skin condition, because it never goes away on its own.

i hav the dry, red flakiness aswell but it never gets itchy and its not underneath the nose it is in the grooves on the sides and sometimes i scratch off all da flakes and its jus red so then i put foundation to take the redness away and then its usually better for the day but then by night when i take my make up off, its back and it hurts.

Does anyone know if rubbing alcohol really works? I also have flaking on my nose and on my forehead, but it's not dry, and the flakes of skin are quite fine, and very annoying when trying to apply makeup. I can also see whenever I am in the sun that the tiny flakes are also appearing on my arms, although they are harder to notice. I have a long history of skin problems and have tried hydrocortisone, moisturisers, exfoliants, aloevera, nappy-rash cream, apple cider vinegar (don't try that - it hurts!), some thick vaseline-type "natural" remedies, and many many more things, but nothing ever seems to work. If anyone has any tips please email me at psych3d@hotmail.com - I'm extremely desperate for a miracle cure!

Seborrheic dermatitis
---------- READ THIS. IF THE CONDITIONS ARE SIMILAR WITH YOUR PROBLEM, THEN you MIGHT have Seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a disease that causes flaking of the skin. It usually affects the scalp Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect the skin on other parts of the body, such as the face and chest, and the creases of the arms, legs and groin. Seborrheic dermatitis usually causes the skin to look a little greasy and scaly or flaky. Seborrheic dermatitis most often occurs in babies younger than 3 months of age and in adults from 30 to 60 years of age. In adults, it's more common in men than in women. A chronic inflammatory disease of the skin of unknown cause or origin, characterized by moderate erythema; dry, moist, or greasy scaling; and yellow crusted patches on various areas, including the midparts of the face, ears, supraorbital regions, umbilicus (the navel), genitalia, and especially the scalp. Seborrheic dermatitis in patients infected with HIV responds to a variety of therapies but tends to reoccur.... A condition marked by small discolored patches or spots on the skin and frequently occurs on the face and scalp. |

Hi all!
I too have suffered with dry, itchy skin around my nose and found this methosd very helpful: 1. Use more gentle and mild sopas and cleansers, and only wash your face in warm water. 2. Use a gentle facial scrub to remoce and flaky bits. 3 Invest in a good helaing product (I used "Lucas's Paw Paw Ointment")and use sparingly when you need to. Hope I helped! Sarah xx |

I have not been diagnosed by a Doctor, but all flags point to Seb Derm except for yellow, oily skin. I have a little itchy area on forhead, on both sides of nose but out onto the cheek somewhat. It does not itch at night. Seems like it goes into a state of dormancy. Have been using H&S shampoo with selinium sulfide on my face,(great for the itch ) but doesnt last. Using the shampoo is the only reason my skin flakes at all. The only relief I found is cortaid cream. If I use it, I only need a tiny bit and dont even have to use it on all of the problem area, and it goes away for 3-4 days. Sun exposure helps too. A moderate sun burn will set it back for a week.A small itchy patch developed 4 years ago and it is slowly getting worse, 40 years old now. Will take any advice given.

I have very itchy skin inside my nose and around the crease of the outside! I've tried everything, antifungals, bacitracin, my sinuses are also draining and when I sleep at night they must drain, and when I get up my nose is all stuffed up inside (just on the left) How do I make this awful itch go away once and for all?

I have tried most of the moisturizers and lotions I read but the itchiness and skin flakes keeps on coming back... but for relief on the side of my nose where it really itches... it may sound weird but I tried to put "chapsticks for canker sore for the lips" (small yellow tube) and right away I felt relieve at least overnight... when you are desperate you will try anything !!
