One scar left on one side not really noticeable even with a shaved head!! If it is really bothering you get it dealt with before it ruins your social life!! It's really not a big deal to get it done, and heals fairly quick!:-)

I just had it DONE. right now stitches are allover my face. treating them as advised. and my face is a bit swollen.

however, the forever anoying and zigzaging vien/artery seems to have gone (will report fully by end of this week.)
the pain associated with te bulging vien is no more. the cut seems to be "healing" well. will keep you guys posted...soon!

Here's another update on my procedure/recovery:

1. i visited with Flem's Dr Kester at Cambie Surgery Center. The procedure was done on Friday (13th April). and its third day into my recovery.

2. Dr Kester said the procedure is called "BILATERAL EXCISION OF SUPERFICIAL TEMPORAL ARTERIES". its a one hour procedure which basically "cut & tie" the troubling arteries. He made three small incisions on each side...and tied them off (forever disabling the "wild" arteries/veins").
3. after the procedure i was sent to the adjacent "Safeway" mall and picked up Talenol (pain killer), and an antibiotic ointment which i am applying three times a day.
4. as i write...certain things are begining to be obvious now...and other things i will know at the end of this week.(i). the cuts are healing well. no sign of infection so far. But the last two days i experience a little bit of swelling. and this morning, there is little improvement on that. it may take another 48 hours before it subsides. by then i will be in a better possible to share with the rest of the community.(II). However, the instant things i notice so far are: the mild pain/headache associated with the bulging vein is GONE. the problematic vein is NO MORE.
5. During the procedure "we" (Dr Kester, his team and me) were engage in conversations. One of the reasons, as i learned later was to keep me "distracted"...I asked a wide variety of questions...and here are some of the things i learned:(i). the week before i went, he had just performed a similar procedure with another patient. he has done a number of this.....and he appears to KNOW what he is doing.(ii). he not only excised the troubled spot but he also went near the ears and "cut" and "tie" off there. later i was told.....the arteries come out there.(iii). he said....there are other "tributory arteries" who can take on the function of the "wild" ones so...no need to worry about what might happen.

anyway, i found help on this side...so i am indebted to this community. It has cost me a little bit over $2,000.00 BUT i'd rather do that (even in my poverty) than to have my (social, emotional, mental, etc) LIFE stollen from me!!!

anyway, i will present the FULL results after the cuts are "healed", the "scars" gone, and the swelling subsided. stay tunned.

I travelled from Chicago, IL. Dr Kester made reference to "someone" who laid on the same 'bed' a few weeks earlier. was wondering if that was you.......... anyway, thanks man.

and wouldn't it be nice if we had a "reunion" of the former "veinists," arterists" or what have you.......!

I have the same problem , this is why I am on here. I didn't think there were many people with this problem. I too have become very conscious of it. It happens when I play sport, go out drinking and dancing. Yet some morning I wake and look in the mirror and it is thick and dark. I am just wondering does anyone have neck or back problems. The question is because I have a lot of neck pain but when I go to the massage place, the vein doesn't seem so big. I notice the vein a lot in photos where everyone's face looks fresh but my vein stands out. My friend said not to worry about it as Angelina jollee gas one on her forehead and look how beautiful is she ??? Hmmmmmm??

for those who might be "still" interesed in dealing with the "wild arteries," here is another update:

1. this morning...the "sore" was almost over
2. the swelling subsided substantially. i felt a little lighter.
3. 95% of the pain is over
4. 100% of the bulging arteries/veins could NO LONGER be seen!!!
5. the mild headache that i usually experience (which im sure is associated with this throbbing artery is NO MORE.
6. I felt a lot CALMER, and less nervous and less CONscOUS.
7. and a wave of new LIFE was leashed into my system. actually i got my life back!
8. To test things out better...i went to a public cafeteria today. the last time i went there was like 9 months ago (with my hat on!?!). TOday without my hat, i walked in confidently. It was the FIRST time in a long time i enjoyed the meal without being CONSCIOUS of my temporal veins or the environment. right after the meal i rushed to the bathroom (just to see if there is anything popping out again...which i usually do before my procedure)...but nothing. i got my SMOOTH face again!
9. the only visible things on face were 5 tiny marks (healing cuts). i am so surprised, those cuts are healing fast....as others have indicated...i am sure within the next few weeks and months...those scars with go out.

NEVER thougth thid DAY would come. It finally did!!!!

thanks again those those who have gone before us...!!! i will give another update after another week!!!!!!

Cheers yeah iv read through all these pages, He seems good, but im here in ireland so im going to try a consultation in blfast in the summer, but if it doesnt fill me with confidence i think i would be prepared to travel to Mt Braithwaite. Does he use dissolvable stitches or do you have to go back to get them taken out?

NO MORE! then i took a hot shower. came out. and the veins no more. the scares are "going" day each day. and I am so sO SOOOOOOOO thankful that i was able to find help here.

I just got back from the gym. I went to wash my hands in the bathroom and noticed two LARGE Frankenstein looking garden hoses running up either side of my head. I immediately cursed Father Time and beckoned for wisdom from above as to why hath I been stricken with such cruelty??!!

Well I "Googled that S#%T"! and here is what I found. So the way I figure is that, as long as my head wont explode at the next dinner party I can live with it. We all are unique and oh so Vein. Now give yourself a hug and get back in the gym!
