Hello, My 10 y/o daughter has a pimple like rash on the anterior aspect of both thighs and a few on her upper lateral arms. They don't itch her and don't appear to be related to the hair follicles. They are small pin point to pimple size bumps (kinda open kind crater topped), no pus or white heads to speak of. We saw our family practice MD last summer for the same and he said to use loofah sponge on them. They ultimately went away last year and are back now. I am not sure what to do. Loofah doesn't seem to be helping and they kinda look like they could be scarring mildly. Should I take her back to MD or now to a derm? Any ideas?

try using St. Ives apricot scrub. Sounds like the red tiny bumps i see on lots of girls. most of my friends deal with it and they use that apricot scrub.

Just curious - did you ever find out what this was or the resolution. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any specifics. TY! KT

that sounds like keratosis pilaris. it is clogged hair follicles, partially caused by a vitamin A dificiency. My husband has it, his whole family has it.

Keratosis pilaris (KP, also follicular keratosis) is a very common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin and hence colloquially referred to as "chicken skin" as well as "meat bumps". It most often appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms (though the lower arms can also be affected), and can also occur on the thighs and tops of legs, flanks, buttocks or any body part except glabrous skin (like the palms or soles of feet). Less commonly, lesions appear on the face and may be mistaken for acne.
Hope this helps

My 14 year old son has small red itchy small red bumbs mainly on both his thighs. Some on his arms, a few on his wrist and ankles. They appear to get better and worse over and over again. Sometimes the bumps appear like a bug bite, surrouned by cluster of smaller red pimple like bumps without heads. He has had some minor headaches, some nausea and sleepiness. This has been ongoing for 2 months, we have seen 2 Dr's and tired everything from oatmeal baths to benedryl?!?!?!? Any ideas?
