Hi guys,
I had decided to stop shaving the bald spots on my chin about a month ago to see what happens. I decided to let the weak white hairs grow. On the original spot I now have some black hairs, around the middle. That never happened before. But they are still very thin and visible only up close. I don't know if they are new black hairs or the white hairs turning black. I had also seen earlier white hairs that are black near the root. That was interesting to see, it seemed like letting them grow kinda helped. However on my other spots things are not so good. They are still getting larger even though they also have thin white hairs (though less common than on the original spot). What do you guys think this means? Is my original spot growing back? is this how its supposed to look like if its coming back?(cause some people said it happens really quick when it starts growing again but in my case its veeery slow) I would be really hopeful if this is a good sign because if one spot regrows it means that eventually others will also and I can stop worrying. I have been experiencing alopecia barbae for 7 months now. And those black hairs on the original spot which used to be smooth like an egg are really encouraging. But the growth of the other spots are equally discouraging. I also think that the original spot that grows weak white and some weak black hairs is also growing on size which doesnt make any sense.. I keep asking Is it getting better or worse? Its always like this, so deceiving.. Do cortisone shots have side effects? Do you guys think I should stop my current topical treatment and try to find a derm who will give the shots? Sorry for the long post, thanks in advane for all replies. |

I have the same problem, I'm 27 and healthy don't smoke. I've had one spot below my chin for almost a year, I had another start about 6 months ago and a new one on my side burn. I definitely don't think its fungal I do exercise regularly but not in gyms. But I was taking a lot of protein shakes and a multivitamin so I don't know if they have something that maybe sparks the autoimmune disorder. I think I'm just as lost as everyone else her. Nothing I've tried works but I'm going to schedule an appointment with my dermatologist. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Since I am one who has spots on my face and head, I get to try both of your suggestions. After having this numerous times in both places, what works is time. It just takes time and the hair does regrow. It is gray at first but does eventually come back as my normal hair color. Good luck! |

OK here is the latest update. I just had my 3rd round of cortisone shots today, the doctor says he is seeing dark and gray hair in 4 of the 5 spots on the back of my head. About 50% of the spots are filling in. A brand new spot showed on the side of my head just above my ear - that's a new area.
I let my facial grow over the weekend and it does seem like most of the places where there was no hair is startgin to fill in with gray. I'm not sure if it is my age (43) or these are spots that have run their course and are finally regrowing. My doctor is a sensible guy, he says the cases we all describe are very mild forms of alopecia. he sadi the really bad cases have to shave their head or are already wearing a wig. Good luck to all! |

This may sound crazy but I have read about the negative affects of excessive masturbation. It can cause severe chemical imbalances in the body and hair loss.
Also it may be exposure to mold. Many people don't know it but unless your exposure level is really high, mold exposure even in moderate amounts can cause health problems including auto immune dysfunction, chronic pneumonia, and hair loss. Just some thoughts because I myself have recently experienced the white spots in my facial hair and at the same time was being exposed to high amounts of toxic mold from a water leak in my apartment that my landlord neglected to fix. What happened was I started experiencing weird flu-like symptoms constantly and ever time I would get this sickness (that lasted for about 2 days) the white spots would grow in size. This started in late winter and early spring of this year (2009). I have since moved out of that apartment and am not being exposed to mold anymore yet I still get that flu like sickness from time to time. From what I understand its not fully known what mold can do to the body and how long the affects of the exposure last so I am just waiting it out and being patient. |

What a cold surprise!!
I decided to explore the results of over using vitamin A 5,000IU (taking 2 pills a day) for just for 3 days in a row and guess what??? My facial ( beard) hairs started for fall off and then I began to get the round empty patches. Well, that tells me that vitamin A and something else (unknown), is making such effect to lose my facial hair (alopecia barbae) or whatever is called! I now decided to stop vitamin A. I just purchased Gingko Biloba. This will help to circulate more blood even to the capillary veins of my eyes. So, I'll be taking these for the next 3 months, but of course, I will notice any effects or differences on my facial hair in the next 7 days. If science wasn't able to figured this part out, then they have been waisting their time! Vitamin A is a major (skin vitamin) so that speaks for itself on many effects towards alopecia. Now, we have to find what else (the combopecia) that is making this alopecia effect to hit on humans. So, I'm guessing, it could be a non-vitamin effect, for example; stress or the need of direct sun-light. May be vitamin D3...something is weird here ummm! More like too much vitamin A and no vitamin D3 or direct sun-light??? Well, we'll see! For now, I do blame vitamin A big time for being a part of this autoimmune attack! I will come back with a new update in about 7 days from this date! Feel free to share any imformation you have! Peter |

Well guys!
I started taking Ginkgo Biloba about 3 days ago. I got the one from GNC.com (60mg * 24% Ginkgo Flavonglycosides) 300 vegetarian capsules, paid about $31.00. While more blood circulates freely throughout my system, my veins, capilaries and artheries-sustaining it's normal elasticity, my autoimmune system should go back to it's normal stage with no levels of vitamin A, since I eat super healthy everyday; I don't need these extra vitamins for now. I figured out that the only thing that can overclock your immune system is a virus, fever or type of allergy. So with that said, Vitamins can also triger an autoimmune attack for no reason at any moment. So narrowing my research, I have come to an end where taking too much or uneccessary Vitamin A in combination of no sunlight, D3 Vitamin, no workout, sitting down too many hours on front of a computer and not drinking enough water, this points to a sign of alopecia! I will come back in about a month with a new update. In the mean time, I'll see how the Ginkgo Biloba and my new routine works out. One last thing; we are like trees- if we don't drink enough water or recieve sunlight then eventually, our tiniest veins will start to dry up and whatever is at the end of them will start to fall off! Scientists, haven't figured out what is causing the alopecia attack, so it could be this which is something so simple. Well, let me stop here and I'll see you guys real soon! Good luck and many blessings! Peter |

If it is fungal or a parasite you can completely get rid of it by using Nix or any other treatment for head lice. I had the same thing, caused by my outdoor cat sleeping in my bed. It was some sort of parasite. Luckily a friend of mine is a biologist and she suggested the lice treatment... worked like a charm, 1 week later its gone!!!

That's a great resourceful experience.
Would you be kind to provide a web site where the "Nix" treatment is featured or sold? Thanks so much, Peter |

Thanks, that's owe some!
When this condition attacked you, did you lost facial & head hair or just head hair with bald-roundy patches? Peter |
|||
Thanks very much for the reply Kevin. as you said, they gray hairs are becoming darker and thicker. But spots elswhere on my face are still growing. It seems like they have a maturity period. The patches need to grow in size, run their course and then produce some hair. Quite annoying.. but its of course very good to see eventual improvement. |

i started out with one patch about 4 months ago on my chin, now most of my facial hair is gone.......it happened to be the same time i started eating better and going to the gym, didnt think anything of it till today....when i started eating better i replaced 2 meals with the slimfast shakes in a can, i found out today they have had a recall due to bacteria contamination, im wondering if that has something to do with it, hopefully my derm can find something that will help me....has anyone else been drinking the shakes?

While taking the shakes, were you under any type of stress, were you getting enough sun light or vitamin D3 from your foods or supplements?

This might be the answer we all have been searching for which doctors and scientists have not be able to find or have ignored. While researching on ALOPECIA, I came across this professional article and decided to think, why if I and all of us are healthy, we experience this hair loss condition called ALOPECIA. And as thought, doctors, dermatologists have no idea why it happens or where does it comes from. All they keep saying is that "this is an autoimmune disorder"... Well this article might explain what is causing it: Notice that we are healthy but the last thing we will think that is causing these badly patches is something that is protecting us in one way but hurting us physically in another way (Vaccinations).
Researchers from the American Food and Drug Administration discovered that vaccinations, particularly the hepatitis B shot, could cause hair loss. They estimate that 50,000 Americans suffer hair loss (alopecia) after immunization every year. The report was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1997. It is nearly impossible to estimate the damage and suffering that has been created and will occur in the future as a result of inadequate information about the dangers of modern immunization programs. Wow, the article I posted above just makes a lot of sense. I remember before starting college, I had all my beautiful head & facial hairs (10 years ago...I'm 35 now.. Then when I was doing registration and getting ready to start classes, I was asked to provide immunazation records, and I remember going to my doctor, after an appointment, I recieved all my necessary vaccinations then after a combination of stress from, college, girlfriend and having a baby on the way, I then noticed that I was getting baby hairs on my side burns they were blondies-baldy patches. I mean, may be the combination of stress and the vaccines give, resulted in this "unknown-to-date condition" ALOPECIA. For some reason I notice that every time I get vaccinated,(by years), I lose more & more hair and get more & more patches which get bigger by time. It will be interesting to skip the vaccine time and see what comes after that. How ever the most important thing is to stay super healthy since I'll be on my own facing nature.
This does make a lot of sense!!!!! 1000%%%%%%! |

I reviewed the above site and everything that involves it. Seems like the reason why we experience ALOPECIA is really due to a strong or rare stress event and this ends up transmmiting and damiging internally. This is the only thing on earth that promises guaranteed to work on the baldy patches we all get! But of course if you really look at the side, you'll notice that it is a mental process that we must all go through in order to fix the organs that were affected by any type of stress or trauma. I guess there is a certain amount of stress we can take internally before it starts to show up externally. So again, that way it is explained on this site, makes more sence than anything else...but as I mentioned before on one of my posts, this has a combination effect with the vaccines we get in particular with the (HEPATITIS) injection. My last guess is that it could be causing this condition when a certain amount of stress is built??? May be scientists and dermatologists should be looking at this more closely and stop ignoring it. In other words life is not perfect, medicine is not perfect however if we focus on it in making it better, it can be fair.
I will try the product, and will order an 8-month supply and will report any progress immediately! Like I said on one of my other posts, we can never give up. Giving up is my enemy specially when there are many people that needs help. My research has direction that has paid off. Again this is the site for the information: http://www.alopeciaareata.us/app/default.asp Good luck to all- Peter |
