Ever since my last child was born (5 years ago) I have developed a rash on my face ( bumpy, red, painful) that seems to appear anywhere from 10 days - two weeks before my menstrual cycle. It eventually clears but for those 6-7 days that it's out, it is a drag.... Has anyone else experienced this and is there something preventative I can do? Thanks

Hi there,

Yes I have also developed a rash on my chin (red and really dry looking), it comes up a day before my period is due, and lasts the whole entire menstrual cycle and about week after the cycle has ended.
The doctor said it looked like an allergic reaction to something, weird, but I only used the cream that he prescribed me, it doen't clear it up just takes the dryness away......

Hi,
I have been going through the same thing, I get this itchy red bumps only on my face a week before my period. I went to the doctor's and they said it's roseacea. Wish I don't think it is! I hate seeing them, if Any one it's getting the same please let me know what you are using to clear them up.

I have experienced a rash a day or two before my menstrual for the past three months. It cleared the first month but now it looks like a dark cicle which gets irritated each month. Not sure what to use to clear it up. Maybe the vitamin E or Coca butter I read some where it might help. Anyone has any other suggestion?

I have the same problem, but it covers my eyes. It is thought to be a sensitivity to progesterone. I use hydrocortizone cream to keep it in check, and that usually works. Once in awhile it gets so bad and painful that my doctor prescribes me prednisone which clears it up fairly quickly. Also getting some sunlight on it helps.

For the dryness I use the cream version of Vaseline. I find other lotions burn too badly to use them.

As far as prevention goes, I have had some success with using hydrocortisone lightly over the area that I know will have the rash starting before my period and continuing throughout my cycle. I also stopped using harsh soaps on my face and I only use Dove now.

This is actually a pretty rare condition and so doctors just don't know enough about it. lucky us.

I also get a itchy red bumpy rash about a week before my period usually clears up towards the end. It seem to be worse if Im having a stressful week. I told my dermatologists and she said it is rosacia and my period doesnt effect it, but it slways pops up during the period weeks. I got sick and tired of hearing its not period related, when I know it is. so glad to know Im not the only one. I am using elidel 1% cream and metronidazole .75% cream durin the flair ups

I am doing some research for my daughter, who also gets this red bumpy rash, that is hot and itchy on her face during her menstral cycle. I am surprised to see how many women are suffering with this and that there is such vague response from the medical community. I am assuming it is horomone related and would think an Endrocrinologist may be the specialist to see or perhaps a Gynogologist? It seems to be fairly common and again, I'm surprised at the indifference with treatment between doctors. I did see someone mention a Progesterone imbalance. I'm wondering if anyone is on birth control and if that has helped or not?

I have this right now too covering my eyes both cheeks and chin, i think my nose is the only bit free from it! It's awful and gets me so down, but im glad im not the only one! Mines sort of "sticky" to the touch it oozes a clearish sort of liquid from it...does anyone else get this? I also agree that it is definately to do with your period, i'm not even going to go to my doctor as i know what she'll say :(

I got this for the first time today in the middle of my menstrual cycle and I still don't know what it is. Since I'm not very fair skinned, I don't think it's Rosacea or sun sensitivity. Does it have to do with my period? Will it go away without medication? I don't want to go to my doctor since he's a middle aged man...

Ladies, you should consider Autoimmune Progesterone Dermatitis, a rare disease that is essentially an allergy to progesterone (which rises before menses). Talk to an allergist/immunologist and ask to be tested.

it started my last cycle, i thought it was just an allergc reaction. But when my cycle started again, the very first day, i broke out into an itchy rash all over my face and now i have a horrible blister where an old lesion/scar was. I also get the itch inside my ears and nose and the back of my neck. I take an antihistamine to stop the itchy-ness and it works for a while, but not that long and it comes back. nothing else seems to help, and i know its period related, im just scared of what my doctor is going to tell me later today.

Ladies, I have been experiencing the same thing for the past year. Two to three days befor my cycle starts I get a fine itchy rash around my chin and mouth area. Sometimes it is on more areas of my face. I have not seen a doctor for this condition as of yet. But I have enough medical knowledge to know it's some form of dermatitis that is due to hormonal changes related to my cycle. When I remember I use hydrocortisone cream which usually takes care of the problem somewhat. And like clockwork after my cycle ends I am back to my smooth face! Very odd, but it's noce to know there are others out there who share my monthly headache!

I also have this problem. I have had atopic eczema since childhood but this is so much itchier and hot to touch around the chin. It is not the same as my eczema at all. It always starts around the time of my period. I am wondering if any of you suffer with severe Pmt or Pmdd as I'm convinced there is a link and that it is caused by a hormone imbalance. I have been prescribed prednisalonee steroids and steriod cream for it in the past.

Hi ladies, I am experiencing the same thing. Every month like clockwork I get a circle rash on my chin. I thought it was a ringworm but my doctor said that it wasn't. I get it the first day of my period and it lasts the entire cycle. I have no clue what it is but I do think it's hormonal since I get it EVERY period. I've tried putting an anti fungal cream on it and it seems to help.

I'm so glad to have found this forum. I also get this. This has just started in the past year. I am 46. I noticed the other day that I have a pale reddish area on my skin above my left eyebrow and when I got the rash, it was worse in that spot. I get it all over my face with the exception of my nose. It's worst around my eyebrow area and my chin line. I'll write my dermatologist and let you know if she says anything.

I am 33 and have had this rash that comes on the first day of my period like clock work and the rash occurs in the same place every month except this month it is starting to spread to my right eye and the back of my neck. When the machines and redness goes away, it leaves a very dark patch on my skin that seems to be getting darker and darker as the months go by. I've tried hydrocortisone cream and oral antihistamines but they don't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions or even have the same symptoms? Also do any of you have children. I'm afraid it'll cause infertility based on what I've been reading and I want to have kids.

I've had constant problems with my cycle (which started when I was 9). I started developing a rash about 2 years ago when I was 33. It's centralized on my stomach, chest area. Some months, I may not see the rash, but have severe itching. I tried everything to eliminate it, such as all gentle soaps, but it always starts about a week before my cycle end ends when I'm on my cycle.

Leah, I have been unable to become pregnant, after trying for many years. Though I am not sure if it is me or my husband (he won't get tested). Aveeno seems to help somewhat. I've often wondered if I have Candida, if somehow this happens during my cycle (since I eat a lot of breads and sugar).

I feel a little better knowing that I'm not alone with this. Honestly, I'm tired of going through all the terrible symptoms every month and haven't been able to conceive.
