Tender Swollen Lump near Groin Area

I'm a 22 year old woman that has a tender swollen lump near my groin area (where my leg meets my genitals).
When I was 13 I had the same thing on same place except on my right side, it was the size of a pea that eventually grew into the size of a walnut. It was never painful until 3 years ago, it became infected (I found out later by an ingrown pubic hair). It has swollen up to the size of an egg and was painful to walk. I went to a Dermatologist and he surgically removed it, I forgot what he called it though. After researching, it has many charateristics of a sebaceous cyst but has never leaked or oozed fluid or pus. It doesn’t even seem to have a ‘head’ on it.
Since then it's been 3 years and I've noticed an occasional small one every 4-5 months but currently I have one that seems to be doing the same thing as 3 years ago... it's taken about 2 months to grow to the size of a walnut. I'm not touching or squeezing it, mainly b/c it hurts, and I think that that's the reason it got bad last time. I really don't want to have it removed like last because the last time it left a horrible scar and I don't want a matching one on the other side. BUT I will if it is necessary. I guess that is my main question. Last night, I put a really hot rag on it for a few minutes because I read that heat would help with the swelling. Will this go away on its own, without surgery?
AND if it is infected would Doxycycline be a good antibiotic in order to cure the infection?(Currently I do not have insurance and I have a prescription for Dozycycline that my doctor gave me a month ago for my acne).
Basically my questions are:
• What is this?
• Will it go away without surgery?
• If infected, will Doxycycline cure the infection?
• How can I prevent another one from popping up?(I thought that it might be caused by me shaving my bikini area frequently and have course ingrown hair)
I hope someone can help me. I’ve been doing a lot of research and I realize there are many similar cases like mine with questions but not as many answers.
Thank you in advance!

I am 26 and I have something that sounds similar, a lump in my groin area on the right side that I believe began as an ingrown hair, there is no head or pus and when I get my period it gets smaller or flatter I should say then when my period ends it fills back up it has also changed shape or moved I should say. I have researched everything online and found nothing and when I went to see the docator they wanted $350 to lance and drain it but I don't know if it needs to be drained.

I am 22 and I have the same exact thing! This seems like a real young woman problem! I asked my doctor about it and he said it was a gland and not to worry, but it may persist for up to a year! This stinks huh?!

well im 16 and i have one right above my left hip bone....and its sort of painful when im sitting for a while ( like how i am now trying to find answers lol ), and it hurts when i walk or curl up t night to go to sleep. Online i haven't read anyones complaints about their "lumps" being quite bluish as if it were a bruise or something. thats my case and it always feels cold. The coldness is the kind of coldness that yu get in your hand if youy raise your arm for an hour ( as if blood is draining out or something)- has anyone felt similarly??

I'm 21 and experiencing a similar problem. A few days ago I discovered a small pea-sized lump on the right side of my pelvic area/groin. It didn't hurt at first unless I touched or pressed on it, but now there is a dull pain there and my skin the area around the lump has also turned a pinkish red. I'm extremely worried about it and I haven't seen my doctor yet but I will if it persists...if anyone has any information please share.

I have the exact same issue.
I have had it for a year or so now.
It would usually starts off really small, and if I wear any sort of underwear that rubs against the area where the pantyline meets the inside of the thigh...it would get larger...I was told by my doctor that it was no big deal...and it is commmon...but that was this summer...however...I have found that if I discontinued to wear underwear that rubbed against it...it would eventually go away...but when I start wearing certain underwear...it would come back...

I have done a little research and my conclusions are:
lymph nodes...we have hundreds and its simply white blood cells, it can develop into something worse...however, it usually is derived from an infection...

which my biology teacher said a few days ago that you can often get under your armpits, groin area, underarms, ect...simply for your immune system...

or a cyst...do not know much about this.

Hope this will qualm some of your fears as it really is relatively common, but do check with a doctor in the event that it is something worse...

I get little cyst like lumps next to my groin, at the top of my right leg occasionally, but they're not always squeezable!(sorry i know i shouldn't be trying!) and they feel like they're a little under the skin? I've had one for a couple of weeks now, and a new one's just appeared. Does anyone have this kind of issue? Thank you!:)

I do not know the ins and outs of this problem but do know that my girlfriend recently had a swelling on her groin that she visited the doctor for. She was advised it was from an ingrown hair and given a 2 week course of antibiotics. The swelling grew over the following few days and she sought a 2nd opinion - this doctor advised her to fo straight to the Emergency Ward she she was examined and operated on the following day to have it removed. It was not a major procedure and a necessity nonetheless - should a groin cyst grow and potentially burst, it can cause many complications, some of which are very severe.

I have come across this page trying to research the details - I would really advise seeking advice from a doctor should anyone be unsure.

I have a large bump that just appeared just above my right leg near my groin. I was just sitting when I felt a small pop of pressure immediatly I felt the spot and there was a bump the size of a walnut also. It hurts to sit and wear underwear that puts pressure on it. I'm only 17 and it worries me. I am going to see a doctor in 2 days.

I have one of these too.. or I think I do? I have a lump, where my leg meets my genital area. It is VERY tender under the skin. When I squeezed it, it was like a balloon blowing up. My skin seemed very thin around it, and you would think it would just POP, but it doesnt. It just gets bigger and bigger.. and then the lump will go away if I leave it alone for a day, but the pain is still there. I see a GYN next week, so I'm hoping he will provide some info/relief. Anyone else experiencing what I am trying to explain?

I have the same thing.

I have noticed that there are many, many people with this. So that makes me feel a little better however it is still very worrying.

Yesterday, I descovered that over night a lump had appeared under my skin. At least I dont thikn it was there before. It is in my groin on the right side where my thigh meets the fold of my pelvis. Right this minute I have a tingly feeling, almost numb feeling. Its weird. There is no redness nor is it swollen. You can only feel it when you press on the area.

It does hurt. It hurts when you press on it. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow but I need my mind to be put at ease till then. Iv read many stories on the internet and im very worried. Im only 17 and I have an active life, playing many sports etc.

I have no background of illness, the only thing I have every suffered from is IBS.

Can anybody help me? I would be really greatful.
