Hi, I am faced with a DILLEMA that may seem petty but is actually very serious to me!

About three weeks ago, the outer layer of skin peeled off of the center of my upper lip. The result was a tender, reddish looking triangle patch of skin that was very noticable. The thing about it was, it healed after a day or two. When it would heal, I would still have to be VERY cautious about smiliing, what I ate, how I brushed my teeth, because the new layer of skin was easily cracked and would peel off easily. I have gone through a cycle of peeling/healing about five or six times now, and I'm scared that I'm going to have to live for the rest of my life like this. I recently started putting vitamin E oil on my lips which has helped a LOT and for a moment I thought it was the answer. UNTIL they cracked again and I had to peel the rest off (start the whole healing process over). Is there anything I can do for this? Am I condemned to be a victim of this seemingly never-ending cycle? If I am extra cautious, and give the skin time to heal with my lips ever go back to normal?

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. I am an eighteen year old male, VERY social and I have too many other things to worry about other than a lip. THANKS!

I got the same problem in Dec,2005. The Horrible cycle of peeling last about 6 months. Afterward, better and better. And Now My lips are still dry.

SO depressed!!! I know how you feeling.

Try some lipid replenishing lip cream for SENSITIZED lips & SEVERELY dry lips, Fragrance-free, Minimizes risk of irritation, Helps restore comfort.

It will take a very long time to heal.

Some herbal tea helps.

BE CAREFUL when you try to put something on your lips, make sure gentle enough for sensitive lips !!!!!!

No smoking, no drinking, no hot food.

Warm and wet season, for example summer, is good for peeling lips.

The same thing has happened to me in the past. It doesn't really bother me, and I haven't had any women notice before ;) But I understand your distress. I find that it doesn't happen when I'm well-hydrated or using chapstick. I'm not a doctor, though, so I don't know why our lips are peeling or even if our conditions are related.

One bit of advice I can give you as a 24-year-old male, however, is to accept that little changes will start to happen to your body as you get older. The only thing you can do is take care of your body (you only have one!) and try to work around your physical limitations.

Good luck! I hope you're able to solve this!

HAH wow you guys are useless, she asked for help.. not talkin about all your problems too. ok well first of all, you're obviously not alone, as everyone has made quite clear to you :P i had the same problem, well there are 2 things that will work, my peeling lips were as a result of eczema, if this is the case, get a prescription cream, it will work overnight! totally amazing. if its not eczema and ur quite sure of it, use vaseline or a gentle face cream (for sensetive skin) on it every morning and night. youll probably see results in a week or so. hope this helps you

i know this is kind of late, but i've gone through this too. it mostly just takes time. the trick is keeping your lips moist enough so that they don't crack and peel too much/ bleed and expose even newer skin, but not too moist or else they won't be able to scab and heal naturally. i found that smiling a lot, which was kind of painful, helped because it was also allowed my skin to be flexible.

I've used many lips products and realy have felt that any realy work and they certainly don't work right away, until now. I have try Maxolip and i can see the best result. Maxolip is best I have judged.

I have the same problem as some of you, others I believe are confusing it with the skin on the actual lip. The problem I have is on the skin where a moustache would be if I were to grow one. It feels irritated then feels like its burning a bit, it scabs up and peels, if I keep it closely shaven and use ointment it looks like its going away however it doesnt and the cylcle goes on again.
I really dont like the way it looks and feels, its something we shouldnt have to live with, surely there is a cure. Its something that has just appeared not something I have had forever, but it is starting to feels as though it will never go away!!
I feel that it my be a fungal infection or something of the sort.
Sorry that at the moment I am a suffer too and can not offer any solution, if I find one I will let you know.
