I was originally going to go with Anglada but at the last minute switched to Prada. Did I do the right thing? I hope so!
HalfCountry if you make sure they already have a slot for you with all three doctors available...you are good to go,

Info I think it's common to look at the grass on the other side. I know at several points I did the same and posted my thoughts on here. I think whenever things don't go exactly as planned or turn out like we have dreamed it's easy to second guess ourselves. I was able to come to grips with that and stop questioning whether or not I made the right decision when I told myself isn't that life. One things for certain if you or I choose a different dr our experience would have been different. BUT who's to say whether it would have been better or worse. You made the right decision.

For people with a fixed temp denture; Can you explain exactly what you have? Is it a set of teeth mounted or an actual temp denture with roof plate and all?

I'm currently wearing a temp denture and absolutely HATE having the roof of my mouth covered.

Can you explain what you had done if you're wearing a full temp denture?

Hi Halfcountry,
My temporary upper denture snaps on to mini implants. It covers the palette completely. I hate it mainly because it blocks tasting my food. It does hold securely and is not terribly uncomfortable. I just have to endure it till I get my permanent crowns. I take it off frequently just to be more comfortable. The bottom denture is much worse. It attaches to my remaining canine teeth only with hooks. It moves whenever I eat and also pinches in places. It's awful. I wear it as little as possible, mainly when I'm talking among people. I'm going to see a denturist in the U.S. to see how it can be improved since I can't fly back to C.R. to have it adjusted there. It needs to last till July when I do return to Costa Rica. Lots of people have problems with their temps. I wish I had better news for you but this is an area that deffinitely needs improvement.

temps : my $0.02
... One(1) of the top-5 reasons for our Choice of a CR dental clinic,
was Avoiding the discomfort or misery of those 6-mos. with temp-dentures ...

for example ( excerpts from rejected proposals )

> Prada Proposals:
" full removable immediate denture $800 "
_+$1,000 option :
" fixed temporary denture can be done "

> Obando proposals :
"temporary removable dentures $250"
_+$1,000 option :
" Each fixed temporary over mini implants "

> Mora (Dental Cosmetics Costa Rica) proposals :
" Removable Conventional Denture for a cost of $250 "
_$1,500 option :
" Provisional a Fixed Temporary Bridge "

> Anglada proposals:
"Conventional Temporary Denture $200"
_+$2,000 option :
" permanent temporary teeth attached to the implants"

> from costaricadentalteam.com
" Transitional dentures ...$550 "

..........
Thus, the clinic we selected, proposed "temporary teeth bridges" made of
reinforced acrylic.( " $500 ... regardless of number of sets needed").

I can't speak to removable temporaries, but they sound awful to me. I guess I could put up with it if I had to while waiting for crowns, but yuk.
I wore my fixed temporaries that were cemented on for a little over a year. They needed to be cleaned with a water pik and I used peroxide to rinse them, but they stayed in place just like real teeth.
They were big, though and a challenge to get used to.

Are you and your wife done? How is everything at Casa Marco? I remember you said you went to Mas X Menos Market. I got all my food there every other day. I went to Crowne Plaza to play some Texas Hold-em but, I could not find any poker tables there. The Casino next to the Cristina had slots and a different kind of poker, not hold-em. Hope all is good JMk and look forward to hearing how things went.

I agree but it's only because she's bad luck. They aren't what us Americans think of casinos. Most are just slot machines. Some have table games but limited.

All on 8 procedure. At 45, will I need to worry about my bone receding between implants over time because the implants are so far apart? Like my two front teeth... In 20 years, will I need a bone graft if I don't fill that space with an implant or 2?

Slot machines are what she likes, but I'll need to find a table game somewhere.

Hmm I think this is really a question for the Dr. I'm sure there are several of us here that would love to give our advice, but that's exactly what you would be getting. Although I haven't heard of this in my readings so far google (peri-Implantitis)

Donna WG. Thank you for that private message selling the Cavallini clinic. I've chosen a different clinic for the very reason that you are a paid shill. Have a nice day.

Halfcountry: Flag on the play!

If you're going to start accusing people of being "shills", please take it to another board. We don't need more "dentist wars" here.

Almost all posters here are "paying it forward". And for those few that you have suspicions about .... just ignore them or handle it privately. Only rank newbies find shills under every rock.

Sorry. She blatantly tried to direct me to Cavallini clinic in a private message. Wished I wouldn't have deleted it now.

I can't vouch for her, but I doubt Donna's a shill.

Respectable dentists don't need or use shills. The Cavs don't use them: They have scores of satisfied patients willing to testify for them. So when you said Donna was a shill, that sort of raised a red flag with me.

People on this board generally have good knowledge about only one C.R. dentist: the one they use. If they're happy with him, then the natural tendency is to plump for him in public posts or private posts. That's just normal and shouldn't raise alarm flags. Caveat emptor.

Some other clinics are desperate for patients/victims and have used shills from time to time on this board. But it's not a great way to get new patients: It takes time to create a long post, and it will get lost in the shuffle anyway.(Most public posts by shills are either very short or a hit job against a popular clinic.) The best way to get new patients is by referral from satisfied patients. Unfortunately, not all CR clinics have a surfeit of satisfied patients!

Hey Country, I am no expert but I am pretty sure that your implants stops bone loss. The jaw bone senses the mastication/Chewing and responds to the stimuli. Even better that you will have 8 implants. Think of all the all on 4's that are done and prevent bone loss. You will have 2x the implants. I myself only have 6 on top. I doubt that you will need any bone grafts in the future. Have fun at the Casino and as Panhandle said, They are not U.S. Casinos but are still fun to waste some colones at and have a drink.
