I am 44yrs old. back in 2006, due to perio I had all my teeth extracted and had dentures made. both upper and lower. I decided to do this even at such a young age, because the hearing comments about my smile were killing me. Tearing at my insides each and every day as I walked out my door. I started even not going anywhere, due to severe panic/anxiety attacks. Living with my hand over my mouth 24/7 wasn't living at all. I had my 2 children telling me that they would love me the same, even after getting a full set of dentures. But as of today, 2 yrs later. I am still not able to smile, I have not been able to wear my lower denture for 2 yrs, due to additional bone on my lower that should have been shaved down and wasn't. So imagine walking out the door everyday without any bottom teeth at 44?? Insane. My self image is horrible, and with teeth I firmly believe I am an attractive person..but i have lost that spark of life, of happiness. My uppers don't fit, and for the most part are kept in a container of water to keep them from cracking. All I ever wanted was to smile. The one thing most people take advantage of, was the one thing I have longed for. The idea of feeling confident upon meeting someone new and shaking their hands is still foreign to me. Going through the process of getting dentures is not an easy transition, it feels like someone just cut off a limb...no different. I cannot eat properly, because I cannot wear lowers. So my story didn't end happily with a huge smile on my face, starting a new life with a smile. My story is still one of lost hopes and no smile. I was looking into getting implants in a day to retain the dentures. But cannot afford them. All I want is too be able to attend my sons wedding and smile in his joyous occasion..all I want to do is live a normal and happy life. ALL I WANT TO DO IS JUST S-M-I-L-E!

I am 27 years old and a mother of two. Not by choice I am also a widow. I would never thought that this would happpen to me. My children growing up and not getting the chance to meet their fathers. So much has happpened since now and then. My children are growing up at that time they were three months and four. Now they,re seven and ten. I get my strength each day through them. I would love to have the chance to be able to smile compeletely to show them my reaction of how blessed I am to have two wonderful children like them.

I am a 39yr old, Wife and Mother of 2 wonderful children. I am in severe need of dental work, and I am not able to afford it.In the past 5 years, I have lost.. My Best Friend..My Best Friends' Mother.. My Mother...& My Sister. My best friend died at 32yrs.old from congestive heart failure. She had a previous heart condition that was found when her son was born (on our wedding day)- We had her here for 9 more years..So, I have to consider that a gift in itself. Her Mother died of a broken heart. That is actually what the Dr.s called it. She was in such pain over her daughter's death and the circumstances surrounding.. Her daughter had the 9yr old son.. and he was the one to find her, the morning she died.My Mother bravely fought Breast Cancer - That Metabolized into Bone Cancer and then, a Brain Tumor. During the 3 - 4 years that she was ill.. I spent every moment I could taking care of her. I home-schooled my young children so that they coudl be with us. I took care of Mom, all the way up until the day she passed. We were at home for that.It tore me apart.. My Mom.. My Best Friend..and Her Mother. Each died one year apart. I spent my time, during those years taking care of my Mom and watching out for her my best friends' Son. We are still in very close contact. Then, the kicker.. My sister was a methanphetamine user of and on... for years. She got clean during the last year of my Mother's life. However, after my Mom died.. Kathy (my sister)quickly went down hill and ultimately wound-up overdosing after leaving her 11 yr. old daughter at a local shelter in Santa Rosa. I had tracked her and her daughter in hopes for an arrest or for a submission to drug rehabilitation through the government system. It was no use, she had given-up. I am still working to get custody of her daughter. To at least bring her to my home with our family. The system is very tough to peddle through. Especially when things are left soo screwed-up. I visit her in Santa Rosa as much as possible. And, being her to my home for the holidays. It is heart-wrenching for her. Her Mom was a very special lady... and she was old enough to get to see that when she was clean.(another thing to chalk-up as a small blessing).
My teeth suffered tremendously during these years. The stress.. the vomiting from the sadness and stress. My gums are at the point that I cannot chew most foods. I have severe pain from infections that start as the gums deteriorate and the bone as well. I am getting ready to loose the front teeth. I cannot afford the $8 -$12K that they have given me as my quote for care. The current anxiety is tremendous and does not help at all. I have taken care of everyone else, My Mom -- My Family -- My Best Friends Son.. My Grandmother (who is still alive)..and anyone else who needed help. However, I never realized how that would impact my health in the end. I have been treated for health problems related.. hole in asophogas - and hole in stomach from acid from stress. My husband and I now have a sign, decal, banner, business. I need to be able to market and work the front desk. Due to my teeth and gums, it makes it tough. I am out with pain and swelling more often than not. They will not touch my teeth because they are soo loose and deteriorating..
I could REALLY REALLY use a Dental Makeover!! It is so late in life to be trying to be successful in business and without the dental apearance, it is hard to have the confidence to talk to people.(another one of my gifts). And, there is nooo way that we can afford a haircut at this point.. let alone $12k for my teeth. I fear that I will loose them before I can do anything. And, I dont know that my health can handle that. I worry thatmy children will have one more dissapointment and/or loss.I am begging to be considered for this contest. And, have faith that if I keep trying.. someone will hear my voice.. and my karma will kick in!Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and my needs.

My husband is the most wonderful man I know. We have been married for 18 years and have 2 boys. My husband works a rotating shift 1st, 2nd, and 3rds 12 hours a day. He works all the time!
He is extremely nervous when it comes to going to the dentist. But he is wanting to have a new smile that he will be proud of. We checked into lumineers and they were so expensive we could never afford that. So we are now looking at dentures, but we both would love for him to be able to keep his own teeth.
If you could help me give something back to the man who gives so much to everyone around him. I would greatly appreciate it.

Y'all know this is a contest by a local TV station, right?

The winner will be from Northwest Arkansas, not Tennessee, California, Illinois, South Carolina, North Carolina or Georgia.

After reading all the emotional stories (I found the site by accident, searching for dental reports) all I can say if you can afford the airfare, travel to Europe to have your teeth fixed. I know most of you can not afford that either. I really symphatise.

Make a run to mexico. I had all my teeth pulled plus denture made all in the same day. Less then $150.00. Go to palomas mex just across the border from columbus NM. 4 blocks past custums gate on the right. I dont remember the dr. name, but he and his staff spoke perfect english and the facility was spotless. Its been two years now and i still havent had any regrets.

I would report this doctor to The American Dental Association, they will put pressure on him or her. You will get your money back and go to to another doctor. Doctors should have there practice shut down. I sympathize with you. I'm trying to get my mouth done as well for the past 2 years I've had to put my hand in front of my mouth. This is noway to live.

Hello,
I am a 38 year old mother of two children who have against most odds overcome some major physical and emotional issues that have limited my ability to live life my fullest. I was obese for 20 years and had many health complications and surgeries as a result. Around 2 years ago I made the decision to take action and had surgery for weight loss. I am now 110 pounds lighter and doing things I thought I would never again have the opportunity to do. My self esteem has taken a drastic turn for the better. I now believe in myself and will never return to the loney, unhappy, obese being that I was. Unfortunately I have a multitude of problems with my teeth. As a matter of fact periodontal disease is taking most of them. I am in eminant danger of losing my front tooth. I need help to correct my teeth so I don't lose them all. I have overcome so much and hope to accomplish this in order to be in order. If there is anyone who would like to take my case on as a study case it would definitely be fun to do the before and after scenario considering it would be a complete transformation.

Please consider me for a dental study case. I am a 38 year old woman who with the gastric bypass has transformed my life and look. I have dental pain and periodontal disease slowing me down. I really want to sucessfully accomplish my complete makeover and feel it would be beneficial to myself and others to use me as a study case. The transformation I have had so far is incredible.

I have been a pretty girl all my life. I am now turning 50 and my teeth are in horrible shape. Old fillings, spaces in between many of my teeth that were never there before. I have been a single Mom who's child has now left home. I am alone for the first time in my life. I have no money and no insurance. I am trying to find my own way, but am really held back by the fact that my teeth look so awful. I also have teeth pain most days. I have kept myself in good physical shape and my weight is exactly what it should be. I don't want to be seen by people who knew me before my teeth began to fall apart so badly. I really need help with this. Thank you.

Hi, I'm 32 and I lost all my teeth to Anorexia and Bulimia when I was only 24 and to this day have suffered not only the physical pain from wearing full dentures but from the emotional pain as well. People can be so cruel :( I think what hurts me most of all is is the fact that my 15 year old son who has Down Syndrome is terrified to see me without them and recoils from me in disgust and even spits like he wants to throw up when I take them out so I never go without them regardless of the pain. The only thing I wish for in this world is to get dental implants and be able to smile again with confidence and fell attractive again and not ashamed and be the person I was meant to be without feeling so much pain and humiliation.

Thanks

Stephanie
