Could one hour be all you need to quit smoking, without cravings or side effects? That's what Innovative Laser Therapy, a New Haven, Connecticut-based company, advertises on its website.

Laser has worked for some people. It seems that different approaches work for different people. Even if that speaks more to readiness than approach - if you can afford it and want to quit, why wouldn't you try it. It doesn't leave big scars or anything.
The point is that if you are short of money to invest in different types of cessation programs and want to quit even if what you choose only works on a psychological level it doesn't matter.
Ideally there would be smoker's clinics where various aids would be available under one roof offered as treatment under health insurance. That might include cognitive quitting techniques, hypnosis, laser therapies etc. In addition the now, traditional, 28 day programs should also be available. We have not offered smokers much in the way of help- primarily lip service.
Proceeds from tobacco taxes could be used as a source of revenue for funding such facilities.
