This may seem like a silly question to ask. Here is the situation. I have fibromyalgia and things are going wrong right and left (numbness and tingling in left leg and left arm) and hip pain. I'm being treated by a acupuncturist right now.
Here's the thing. I've had depression and anxiety all my life (untreated -- never told any medical professional and don't plan on doing so). I'm 23 years old. I've always managed it by ignoring and at times its hard and sometimes its okay. Right now, my depression is worse i guess because of all this pain. The only thing is could it be making my pain worse? I don't really want to live like this but at the same time i don't want medical help.
I've heard acupuncture can help with depression and mood problems. Is that true? If it is, I don't want my acupuncturist to tell my medical doctor or anything because i don't want to get any kind of medical help. If I ask him not to disclose that information, is he likely to respect my choice?
I'd also like to add that I am in no way in risk to myself or anyone else for that matter.

Don't worry, no question about your health is silly. You have a legitimate concern. Absolutely your acupuncturist can help you with the depression and anxiety issues, and may already be doing so. This is because we are trained to see the person as a whole and to recognize patterns of health imbalance. Depression, anxiety, and chronic pain issues are often seen together in the same pattern. Besides using acupuncture, there are several Chinese herbal formulas that are very helpful. Also, using food as therapy works wonderfully, adding or deleting foods from your daily diet. You may want to ask your acupuncturist if he/she is trained in these aspects as well. One of the beautiful things about Traditional Chinese medicine is that it treats the mind on the same level as the body, both are equally important in overall health.
I hope this gives you a bit of help. Best of health to you.
