There are many types of mesh and many maufacture's the best way to find out what he has is to go to the hospital where he had his surgery ask them for the transcription of his surgery and and the type of mesh he had they have the copies availble for you to pick up that will tell you what he has good luck

Ellen, I have had these same pains and horrible feelings for 4 years. Work Comp says it is mental. I was looking at several docs in the east that remove mesh. I see you say you had it done at Stanford. Maybe Work Comp would pay since Stanford is in CA. They refuse to do anything out of state. Just call and ask for a surgeon experienced in mesh removal? I amscared to see anymore docs as I have been to 20 now with little answers. And I do not trust them at all. I am from the Modesto area.

I had a inguinal hernia surgery and they put this mesh inside of me. I had the Surgery in December of 2004 & since that date I have had numbness in the site of the operation and it runs all the way down to my leg. I still have this mesh inside of me and I have seen doctors who have told me that my pains were not involved with and a few day ago I went to see another doctor and he told me it was involved with the hernia. What syptoms have you had or did you have when you had this mesh.

My husband had a inguinal hernia repair in May, 2003 where they used Prolene Hernia System. He complains of pain in the area off and on. And he has been experiencing stomach problems. We haven't figured out what is causing him so much gas and stomach pain. Some nights he is up all night in and out of the restroom. Is there a recall on this system.

I had my 4th Hernia repair in 2001, the last repair was covered witha piece of Gortex gual mesh. I had many infections that led to being on antibiotics, since then I have had problems with pains in my stomach. I had a ball of fluid show up in my stomach, the drained it, to find that it was full of infection, that led to the mesh. I have had surgery in May 2007. The doctor found that the mesh and surrounding area was full of infection do to the mesh. What can someone do about all that I have gone thru these last 6 years and I am still going thru.

Regarding removing the mesh - I had contacted Davol about my problems and they sent me a letter telling me if the mesh is removed, they reserve the right to have it returned to them. Burying evidence? Wouldn't be surprised.

I had bilaternal inguinal hernia repair with a mesh patch in February 2007. In May 2007 I started having horrible gastrointestinal problems, vomiting, constant nausea, fatigue and weight loss. I have always been very healthy. No one can determine the source of my gastrointestinal problems and I have seen two GI specialists. I am horribly nauseous and sick 24/7, haven't worked since May and have become completely debilitated. I am seeing the surgeon who did the mesh tomorrow morning. Can I get it removed? Does anyone have any advice for me? Help :-( I live in complete misery now.
Susan,
I'm in MD too! What kind of mesh did they use?

Please help! June '07 I had Laparoscopic abdominal hernia repair with some form of mesh (at a military hosp). I have been in severe pain ever since. If I move, cough, sneeze even raise my voice I feel like I am being cut it is so hard to describe the pain. I cannot turn over in bed without crying out. I have lost my job. My surgeon says the CAT scan and MRI are normal. He cut some internal sutures saying that may help but it hasn't. No pain medication helps, he has given me steroid injections and Neurontin and nothing helps. Could this be Meshoma?

Lesley,

An ultrasound will show the mesh. The radiologist has to know what he is looking for. Is the surgeon who cut the sutures the same doctor who put it in?

I can't believe that no one is helping you. My e-mail address is [email protected] Write to me and I will try to help you find a doctor.

My wife has been suffering from pain and discomfort around a hernia repair site for several months. She has seen every doctor around and had EVERY test conducted. Through research (mostly by us) we have found that she has a Kugel patch in her. It was installed in 1998. It is not a recalled lot number (yet) but it is causing problems. After laproscopic surgery a month ago the surgeon says that the patch has folded down in a fan like shape into her abdomen instead of laying flat. She has been out of work for over three months. Another surgeon says that it could be worse to remove it. What do we do??? How do I find a surgeon with a high success rate in removing the patches? It seems when I search the web for answers, all I get is lawyers. Can anyone help? [email protected]
Thank you very much!

OH MY ... Get that dam thing out of her!!!!!!!!!! They recalled that months & months ago!!! Get A LAWYER!!!! Go see Dr. Goodyear he is in PA he help me. Just don't go to anyone go to someone who has experience taking the mesh out & he can do it. I found out today that they didn't recall that mesh because the problems it was causing. The FDA recalled it becuase the manufacture A-Holes weremaking alterations to the design. Here's the link...

Please let me know if you have any information on a recall or problems with the following patches:

VICRYL
POLYSORB

NORVELEAN?
(SPELLING MAY BE WRONG ON THIS ONE)

I am having severe problems, and have had a blood infection, severe joint/muscle pain, feet pain, shooting groin pain-numbness-shooting pain that goes down my leg.

recently had cellulitis of the lower abdomen,(blood infection) The infection started on the inside, and presented itself as a red, painful blotch over my entire lower abdomen. I was in the hospital for a week, and then on IV's at home for the last four weeks. I had Vancomycin 2X's a day, and Leviquin 1X day. SO much more to my story- I do not feel well enough to try to type it all out right now... My story is pretty much the same as most that have posted here-thats why I thought someone could help....Please, if ANYONE knows any information about the patchs that I listed please respond Thanks. I had left inguinal hernia surgery Dec. 8, 2006. Two days after the surgery I went to the emergency room with redness spreading across my abdomen. They said it was a bruise. Well, I knew it wasn't. I've raised 3 children & have 3 grandchildren & I know what bruises look like! Duh!! They gave me antibiotics.(For a bruise?) A couple of weeks later I went to see my surgeon because it didn't look or feel like it was healing properly. He looked surprised at the amount of pus & liquid he was getting out of my incision! Well, again I was told it wasn't an infection but again I was given an antibiotic & my husband was shown how to pack my incision, so that it could heal from the inside out! Boy, that was quite an ordeal, because he had to do it every day for two months!! During that time I was taking care of my father who was dying of prostate cancer! I also had a kidney removed the August before that while taking care of him. Praise God it wasn't cancer! I think I had about 4 rounds of antibiotics before the surgeon admitted I had an infection. By the way, I had the Ethicon prolene mesh system (medium) put in, I think. I got copies of my hospital records & it shows Kugel mediun patch also on my records, so that it confusing. Maybe someone can explain this to me. I am having terrible pains & soreness around my incision area & radiating up & around my hip! I am also having pains in the crotch area where it meets my thigh. Also having terrible heel pain on same side! My surgeon says I am the first patient he has ever had with these complcations! He says we can take out the patch & see what's going on. I would like to get a second opinion, but having trouble finding another surgeon who wants to get involved! Surprise! I have come to the point where it hurts to much to walk that I guess I'm going to let him take it out! PLEASE let me know if anybody else has had these problems!!!
Carol, I had something very similar happen but the moment the doctors saw the redness they immediately said it was infected. I was put on I.V. antibiotics and hospitalized immediately. That it took your doctor so long to call it an infection seems ridiculous.

Carol,
Please contact another surgeon, yours is not honest with you. Many Kugel patches were recalled due to the deployment ring breaking at the weld. Your surgeon knows this. Please E-mail me where you live, contact phone #. I will try to refer you a surgeon that might help you.
The shoulice hospital in Canada, although far away has a good reputation, it would be worth it to send your records there for consult. Your life is worth it, so go for a second opinion away from your surgeon. I will provide you with the kugel patch info, need your lot # from your surgeon to compare to the recall list. Even if not recalled, the design is the same and can still have complication. The manufacturer was recently cited for other manufacturing violations. Please contact me, and feel better.

Bruce
