Joe,
Your surgeon must tell you what product was used. If he won't it is in the "Surgeon's Operative Report" which you must request separately from your regular medical record. Please e-mail me at [email protected] and send me your phone # I will help you best I can. Please contact Dr. Jeffrey Sedlack at [email protected] or call 411 Alliance Medical Group in Waterbury, Conn. He has experience with your problem and may be able to help you.
Call me if you can't reach him. I need to know what state you live in to help you. Hang in there!

omg, i am so glad to find this site and talk to people that have the same problems as me! my Dr. also told me i was depressed. my hyrnia started from a kindey donation to my brother in 2004 in detroit i am 3 hrs from him. i kept complaining of pain in my side and in 2005 went to a surgeon here at home and he said i had a hyrnia and my liver and intestine were poking thru the hole.. ok he fixed it with davol kugel mesh. since then i have gone thru pure hell. abdominal pain, bloating, back pain, cramping, constipatiion sometimes diareah, bloody stools. my surgeon is mad at me because i mentioned the recall and that i had called the lawers. he told me i am depressed and need to talk to someone. made me promise to do that( i didn't i am not depressed just tired of dealing with this pain) and also sent me to the pain clinic as to where i have been getting nerve blocks in my right side toward the back, sure that helps the pain in the back, but not the front.. ok. i went to my gyno and cryed to him. he did an exploratory surgery, took out my right ovary (for other reasons) and took pictures of the mesh while he was there. his findings were: the mesh is now stuck to my liver! he has now referred me to a new sergeon. i go on the 23 of aug. i guess i will find out more then. there is way more to this story, but i think i have taken enough space.:o) i wish you all luck! i am going to be returning here because i would love to speak to more of you! my e-mail is [email protected] please put mesh in the subject line. or i will think it is junk mail.
well, went to the doc today.. he said he does not want to take the mesh out. being stuck to my liver can be a very long and risky surgery. that i may be on total disability when it is all done. so what now? live with this horrible pain?????? what the heck? i can't!!!! he is sending me to PT to strenghten my side muscles. that is not going to do nothing but bring on more pain! god help me! he did say he wants to research this more, with him being my new doctor and all. he was going to the hosp and pull my files, CT scans and things. so i just hope and pray he will find something to help me, because i can't take it. school starts next tues and opening and closing the bus door 60+ times a day is going to really kill me. by the way. he does not want me to do, but it is my job and i am in desparate need of $$ from being off all summer from surgery every summer for the past 3 yrs really ctahes up with ya after a while. no summer job. UGH! JUST SOOOOO DAMN FRUSTATED!!!!

Try contacting Surgeon Todd Heniford in Charlotte N.C for a consult. He is experienced in repair of mesh complications. He is conducting a study on lightwieght Ultrapro Mesh. I highly recommend you contact the Shouldice Hospital in Toronto Canada. They do not believe in mesh as an oposing opinion. The Ohio Hernia Center, Dr. Grischkan is also experienced. Dr. Jeffrey Sedlack in Waterbury, Conn. has studied mesh complications and removal. Be prepared to travel and remember your money and debt are just #'s on a paper...Your life and family come first. Although risky (it didn't work out for me) there is help for you out there. Mesh attached to your liver sounds like it will only get worse as you age. You are risking your life. The doctors don't want to get dragged into a mess and end up in a lawsuit. Your injury should have been seen earlier. Please e-mail me at [email protected] for contact phone #'s.

Good luck and feel better,

Had left inguinal repair with Parietex patch in September 2006.
worsening pains since Octboer 2006 and still no help in sight.
Hernia Center Ohio not answering calls or emails. Don't know where ti turn to see a surgeon experienced with these problems and removing mesh. Will follow up on any information anyone can send. willing to travel if necessary. This has prevented me from working since January. also, has anyone had the same symptoms? from 10/06 until 5/07 pain was perineal/rectal, sitting extremely painful. Pain at hernia incision site has only started in June 07. All doctors incl. a hernia surgeon in Boise tell me I am fine. Just like everybody on this site, I had all tests imaginable done, which showed nothing of course since I am told the mesh is invisible to x-rays, scans, etc... pls feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Dear Frustrated with Surgeon,
I am so sorry that you are suffering with such pain from the Kugel mesh. It is not in your head and a pain clinic is not the answer.
I believe the Kugel Bard Mesh Patch was recalled and there are lawsuits over it. The mesh has probably rolled up inside of you.
If you have it removed, try to have it repaired without using ANY MESH of ANY KIND.
All meshes have complications of one kind or another whether it is Prolene, polypropylene, marles, mersilene, whatever name they choose to give their mesh.
I believe you have a newly named condition called Meshoma. Bruce from this forum has e-mailed me an article showing how the surgeon can find it, what it looks like and what you can do about it.
Write me at [email protected] and I will send it to you. I will also give you his e-mail address if you write me so that you can communicate with him directly. He has all of the problems that you do and will be happy to help you figure out what to do...and Most Important, what not to do.
peace and blessings, Lana
I had a uterine suspension with rectocele repair with ethicon mesh and have almost the same pain and discomfort you are describing and an inability to sit since surgery in november of 06. The md that performed the surgery washed his hands of me and referred to my pain as interstitial cystitis which I never had in my life. I am getting stand off attitude from other physicians due to possible litigation is my thought. I have tried many visits to a physical therapist and am extremely tired of the pains and inabilty to ever sit comfortably. Thank you for sharing any insight you may have.

What brand is Dual mesh? Who removed it for you? I am looking for someone experienced with that kind of operations, but had a different mesh than yours. Who diagnosed you and decided the implanted mesh was the cause of your problem? all doctors I have seen tell me the mesh just "cannot be" the cause of my pains, but they have no idea what is (after a zillion tests)... How are you doing now that your mesh has been removed? do you still suffer?

To all who are experiencing problems, with hernia repair. I have posted earlier and have contacted Bruce, he was a wealth of information. I contacted a doctor in the New England area hius assistant was very helpful and fowarded my info to the right away, he gave me the name of a collegue in the Philadelphia are who is aware of what is going on and is going to see me this week as it can't be put off any longer, I have been living in pain for almost 2 years and have almost gotten used to walking with a limp. I was a very active and highly motivated 44 year old, now I am reduced to taking oxycontin, percocet, tramadol and ice bags as I can't do anything anymore. To all don't hesitate to call or contact Bruce he is a great start and can give you a lot of info you are looking for. Bruce don't know if you got my emails but thanks again!!! don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] Bruce, I'm still waiting on the info.

Joe contact bruce from this blog, he can help, i to had a surgery the only difference is that when the surgeon opened me there was no direct or indirct hernia but he performed the operation anyway and the only thing he wrote is that he put a polypropylene mesh inside, I have since went back to the hospital and requested the records again to find out what supplies where used. I urge you to contact Bruce or Lana from this blog. I am in the process of trying to get this mesh removed. I to am goin thru everything you are going thru, you have to be proactive in your care, as no one else will, it is very time consuming but needs to be done or you will keep living in pain. Trust me when I say all the pain medication is not going to make this go away. As I have found out it is very hard to find a doctor willing to help you, But, be persistant as you will find one, in the mean time call Bruce. I can be reached at [email protected]

Please e-mail me your phone #, where you live and what product was placed in you, what side of your body. Some products were recalled, others have the propensity to crumple, ball up and put pressure on the bowel, can erode through surrounding tissue and adhere to bowel, bladder, etc. I will refer to related research and possible service providers in your area.

Good luck, Bruce

I too had a Marlex patch used for a inguinal hernia and had one of the most horrific experiences of my life. The pain, contrary to what the St. Luke's Hospital records state, was not a 6 out of 10. It was a 9 out of 10. I only had to pass out from the excruciating pain I experienced for more than a week after surgery. Six months after surgery, I still feel the effects of the patch with chronic discomfort, inability to move without pain, inability to sleep comfortably, undue pressure and discomfort with bodily functions, limited body mobility, and chronic pain. Had I known, had I explored my options more thoroughly, I would not have allowed this thing to be put in me. It's a decision I seriously regret.

The Johnson Law Firm (1-866-374-0338) Knows the problems that everyone is having from Marlex patches and is actively persuing the company that knew about these problems, they did everything they could to keep a realistic account of these problems.

To everyone I have had contact with: I have been very ill the past couple of weeks (mesh related), coupled with computer snags. I will complete the mesh database packet I have been working on, including instructions on how to file an adverse event report to the manufacturer and to the FDA. IF you are interested (we need strength in numbers to get attention of FDA, media, attorneys, surgeons who will help, and eventually the manufacturers.) Please e-mail me your address again at [email protected]
Your name will not be used unless you request it.
I am not an attorney or doctor, but have suffered three years with mesh complications. We will make a difference, get help for each other..but we need communication and perserverence. Each person's story helps to establish a pattern that will eventually demand investigation.(Like the Kugel patch recall- finally.) One researcher finds little evidence, a group of us finds alot.. Don't give up and this will get better. Thanks and everyone hope you feel better. Hope to hear from you all.

I had double hernia surgery in 2004 with the mesh implanted to repair. It was a horrible surgery and I really don't want to have another but I had another problem (female) and when the doctor went in to fix it he found that my bowel and intestines were attached to the mesh. They both had to be surgically removed. That was one of the reasons that my abdomen was always bloated, I had pain when I would bend over (my intestines were getting caught in my rib cage). There is no guarantee that it won't happen again. Someone should have thought of the problems long ago. They told me that the mesh was less invasive than the old hernia repair but this mesh has been nothing but trouble. You may have your husband have them see if his other organs are attached to the mesh. It won't show up unless you go in and look because mine didn't.
Sheila - Florida wrote:
My husband had hernis surgery in March of 1999. He has had abdominal pain EVER since. He went back to the surgeon once and was told he would have pain for awhile. He has dealt with this pain ever since. Last year it started getting much worse and affected his being able to work, and he had to stay home from work sometimes. He has been to doctors & specialists MANY times and had MANY tests run; including CAT scan,Upper GI w/scope & biopsy, Lower GI, lower intestines live x-rays, colonoscopy, numerous x-rays, blood work to test for other things. ALL the tests came back clean! He has been out of work for two months now. He has an appointment with the surgeon that did the surgery on Thursday. His symptons include pain and burnig in the area and radiating out from the spot of the hernias, nausia, bloated/swollen stomach & ab area, inability to wear anything snug against area, severe pain, fatigue. We feel it is caused by the screen used. We are in the process of getting the information needed to verify what screen was used. if any of you are having issues contact your doctor IMMEDIATELY! If you have trouble remembering who the doctor was, call the hospital you had the surgery in. That is how we got my husbands records. I wish you all luck. Sincerely, Sheila
