Not sure if anyone has read the book Freakonomics, which provides insight to unusual causes to a lot of events to take place, but the author dedicates a chapter that shows how cheating is rampant in sumo wrestling. A great book I highly recommend!

The Biggest problem with sumo is that it is a sport that involves fat slobs trying to be atheletic.

Professional sport involve a lot of money so of course they are corrupt--in every country. The Japanese know how to be discreet about their corruption. Apparently the non-Japanese players don't quite get that part.

If we spend the amount of money wasted on professional sports on safe bike and walking paths, playground, athletic fields and recreation centers we could have recreational sports for all ages and skill levels and we wouldn't have the obesity and health problems we have. As long as people would rather watch and bet than get out and do, nothing will change, whatever country it is.
