"really" I agree it was a very irresponsible thing for the parents to leave the gun in the corner, but as a mother of 2 I know I have left things laying out that could have easly been dangerous to my children. And I think if any parent says that they havent is not telling the truth. I have never left a gun out but my exhusband did and belive me I was outraged too. But I have left knives and forks on the counter and that could have been an accedent just waiting 2 happen. I have left screwdrivers and hammers and that could have resulted in an accident. I guess the point I am trying to make is we all leave things laying out and not really think about it that could be dangerous. Until we all can say that we have never left anything out that could cause harm to a child then we dont judge them. We need to pray and support them. The guilt the feel is the worse thing that they will ever have to deal with!

Marc Murphy needs to be fired along with his superiors. I have canceled my subscription and I will never buy another paper or support any business that advertises in this sorry paper. You are a disgrace and An inconsiderate human being!

You are right...No amount of punishment will compare to what they will put themselves through. Leaving a loaded gun that was previously given to a child as a toy is in no way a comparison to a knife or scissors. Editorials are in the paper every day. It is called a cartoon because it looks like comics. It wasn't in the paper to be humorous --it was in the paper to state an opinion. Their opinion was pushing gun control. Very poor taste but none the less, it was an opinion. I don't like the CJ personally but I think that a lot of folks are taking their anger and sorrow out on the paper instead of properly placing it at the parents for being irresponsible. Nothing would be gained by prosecuting them. The little boy would be the one to lose. He needs his parents to help him heal. Instead of blasting the paper why don't everyone work on getting safety locks for those owning guns in Cumberland county or educating folks about gun safety. Don't let her death go without making some changes in home safety.

You sound like the Muslims did when a comic made fun of their spiritual leader Mohammed. Sometimes the truth hurts and this is one of those times. The "old ways" need to be left behind, they serve no purpose in the modern times we now live in. A 5 year old boy needs a gun like his sister needs a hole in her chest. Face the facts, it was no accident and the parents were dumb at best and should be prosecuted for negligence at least.

Then what, some big threat, maybe give me an a$#whoppin?

People in this area need to face the fact that there is no need for kids to have guns. There is plenty of time later in their lives to learn to use a deadly weapon. Until the attitudes of the public changes there will continue to be needless "accidental deaths".

The cartoon in the CJ struck a nerve around here and probably in other parts of the state. It worked as it was suppposed to work, if you were offended, then maybe you need to work on your attitude. Just because the majority of the public in this area give their children guns, that doesn't mean it's a good idea or legal.

Ahhhh truth hurts, I agree with your name but the truth isn't the issue, the issue is the art work, me? I like the artwork, it has a certain "what the French call " I don't know what. The old ways are only dead if you want to eat poison GMO food and never do anything yourself. One day you may be forced into self reliance and you wont have you God government to wipe your sloppy hole. Its good for a kid to learn to shoot. What's that saying? Zhit happens? Welcome to earth where humans make mistakes. Cops killed over 400 people accidently last year more than terrorists...shouldn't we be doing something about that you snivveling little government loving worm. Fall and praise the beast! Ya jerk

I am truly appalled at what the artist did. It was very rude and has no sinsativity to the terrible traggity to a child. But I think people wants to blame someone else but the parents so they blame the CJ. It is not their fault, and news papers will put anything in their papers for a reaction good or bad. Don't blame the CJ, we all have a job to do selling papers is theirs, news tv has theirs, Topix has theirs. We all hate the gov. They have a job to do, and many others. News is news rather it be good or bad or f*#%d up. Truth hurts I know, and obviously this guy wanted to start some shit, and get people ralled up, and its working. The less attention he gets about this the better. Just like a child acting out to get attention, this is what he has done. We all giving it to him, and he is eating it up like a dog. So ignore him like u would a bratty kid. See what happens then.

i am completely dumb founded because i cant for the life of me believe that gun control is going to prevent but a very small amount of the accidents that occur in our country.would gun control have stopped those two jets that hit the twin towers?what did the cops use to capture those terroists in boston you dumb a;; new yorkers, did they use sticks?the only reason the government is pushing so hard for gun control is because they are afraid someday us tax payers are going to get tired of them taking all our hard earned money and wasting it.it is of no real purpose to use someones tragedy to try and prove your point.if you want to come to burkesville with your sticks we will welcome you as they did before, and to my knowledge they didnt use a gun to knock that reporters teeth out.

This tragic case shouldn't be about gun controls.
It should be about encouraging sane and safe behavior, especially in regard to children.

Attention brought to this tragedy, via the media, might help save some innocent kids in the future.

I see it as similar to 'baby-proofing' your house, when you have a toddler.
The various poisons under the sink are put out of range.

I can't imagine the grief of the parents and the boy. My heart goes out to them.

Another part asks "What were they thinking?"
