If you can't afford children, don't have a liter of them! Anyone on welfare should have to have a drug test, just like those who actually work! They should also have to work at least an a few hours a day! I don't care if it is just picking up liter for a few hours! Make them do something!

I am all for that. I have not been able to find work for 3 years except for 3 jobs that fizzled out after about 2 weeks. I WISH the state would make me feel better about myself by putting me to work, I don't care if they tell me to carry rocks on one end of the yard, then bring them back to the same place and do it over and over. better than sitting at home putting endless job applications out over the net.

then again, at least I didn't goto college, or buy a house, at least I am not indentured. so it could be worse.

these are interesting times truth, college education is worth much less in this environment. except maybe for agriculture. but your right, even that does present opportunity. to remake our country. our country is dying.

the thing is everytime I learn a skill it gets shipped overseas or outsourced, but your right truth, this in itself actually presents opportunities. like right now, I would not goto college for financial services, or anything professional, because, not many in the next ten years or so is going to be able to afford such luxuries with comodity price rises, but , helping people to survive, perhaps sidewalk food sales, albeit illegal, would be the way to go, until the govt. get's it's head out of it's azz. cause I am already growing heirloom stuff on side of road.

i have been ranting about this issue for SO long!!! the welfare system is so messed up,most of the people simply do not want to work. and why should they when the taxpayers that undergo the drug testing so they can pay for people to lay around all say having child after child they cannot take care of. i even see ads on T.V encouraging recipients of ANY welfare to come get government supported home & cell phones!!!! are you kidding me? i have been writing to many legislators about this issue because it enrages me so much

Welfare is a touchy subject everywhere. When I became disabled in 2000 I received SSI. When my Social Security Disability kicked in I paid SSI back. There should be no free rides. I still get SS and I now get my VA disability but I feel that after a smashed back bone for the army in 68 I can't work anymore and I earned what I get. Believe me I'd rather be able to work. I was a plant manager for GE Aircraft Engines overseas and this disability took my legs right out from under me. It's so depressing I have considered suicide many times over the last 11 years. However, when I sit and watch those that are plenty healthy enough to work just sit on their A$$ and draw welfare it irritates me to no end. SOme of these people have been on welfare for the second or third generation by now it's all they know. Mama done, granny done it I'm gonna do it too. People have no satisfaction for what they get they feel it's 'due' them. We owe them a living, I would love to see people have to work to receive what they get. They say I have 5 kids what would I do, go to work in a daycare and help there. You can always do something, unless you are like me and even I would love to go back to work. Gov Scott here in FL just signed a bill making all welfare recipients pass a drug test before they can get welfare. Lets see how that one works.....or not.

It may not fly but it has been signed into law. It may be turned over by the court system but we have high hopes that it will continue. Welfare, for it's original purpose, is not all that bad. It was never meant to be a life long 'give away.' You get down on your luck and society is there to help not support you permanently. They really need to take a long hard look at the system and make those that can go back to work. I broke my back in 1968 in the army. It has always hurt but I continued to work and never filed a disability claim nor a VA claim until I had no other choice. In 2000 it just got to the where I hardly stand anymore. I had to stop, I was a plant manager for General Electric and earning in excess of $200,000.00 a year. But I had no choice, Social Security Disability kicked in withing 3 months of applying, my VA Disability was the same. Do they add up to what I was earning, not a chance. Try about a quarter of it and I still have bills to pay. But I do not consider this welfare not on your life I worked for and earned what little I get. I would gladly trade all my disability for a good back and legs. But God never intended it that way, I always considered it pay back for those I killed. Everything comes in a circle! Life is a bit@h! But those that just sit on their a$$ and refuse to work, no give them a job and put them to work. Sorry for boring everyone for so long.

I knew a guy who claimed SSI on his child, who has a slight mental disorder, for years. When this child got out on their own they continued to draw SSI, of which the checks went to another 3rd party on the childs behalf. This person actually wrote to Social Security and told them that the child was NOT mentally ill and was just lazy. I had had it at that point and I finally confronted him on the subject. I said you drew SSI on that child for almost 18 years and now that YOU don't get the check the child is fine but lazy. What kind of a father are you?
I just don't get it. One guy actually filed for SSI while he was building his girlfriend a new house. The fool got it!!! Now those stories really piss me off. But my question has got to be why would you want to draw SSI or any disability when you can work. It seems that even working Burger King would pay more, it just has to do with the fact that some people are just plain lazy and would rather sponge off of society than make an honest days wages.

i agree with you 100% that the truly disabled deserve&have worked their entire lives & paid dearly for the social security. the sick truth is you [probably get way less than the lifers on welfare& THAT sickens me even more. i pray that the drug testing will start here in Kentucky. and you are absolutely right the people i am talking about are the 1s that learned it from the generation before them&you better believe they are teaching their own kids the same bad behavior. i KNOW from first hand experience, whats really going on with these people. it has become a way of life for them &unless someone does something to change the way the benefits work it will keep going on. what i cannot wrap my head around is how these lawmakers can justify cutting education funding&medicare for the elderly etc. but refuse to take a look at the system&start cutting some of these ridiculous "benefits" for healthy lazy drug addicts. if you can afford to sell ALL your food stamps every month then you do not need them!!!

The bill in Florida will never fly. You have all the twisted minded liberals whining about infringing on the welfare recipients rights. What about my right to keep my earned money and stop supporting useless people? If we went to an all commodity system and cut out food stamps, we would see people go to work and stop mooching. Once we took away their ability to buy their Big Red, Steaks, and cheetos, they may start supporting themselves. But why should they now? They get free housing, medical and food. There was a similar bill in KY. I believe it was shot down. However, the bill stated that the state has to offer drug treatment for thosewho test dirty. More money out of my pocket. It's useless. The dems/ liberals pander to the welfare vote.
i hate welfare junkies. i have been writing to everyone i can think of to get the drug testing passed in the state of Kentucky. the excuses for NOT doing it are nonsense. it WAS shot down&i literally cried over it. however i take the crap you said about it being democrats is the problem. i am a democrat & there are many, many other democrats who are fighting to get something done about this issue. there's plenty to be said about greedy, selfish, rich republicans if you want to go there with that. i am a poor person i am 40 years old&all my life the only thing i have seen the republicans do is in the interest of big money. NEVER the working class so be careful WHO you are blaming for the sham the welfare system belongs to its BOTH parties.if we ALL keep making enough noise MAYBE something will change. but placing the blame on 1 political party or preference is useless & unfair & unfounded GARBAGE!! i have spent my whole life raising 3 kids & have NEVER gotten any welfare. i am a PROUD democrat because someone needs to speak for the working class

The governor of Florida has signed into law a drug test system for welfare recipients. Now we wait to see if it will pass the legal challenge that is sure to come. Some 3rd or 4th generation welfare recipient will feel that they are entitled to welfare simply because of their social order and that FL is racist!!!!

I know a woman right now that has committed Welfare Fraud in Louisville for 3 years. She got married to a retired Veteran . For 3 years she did not: report additional income of $ 3,000.00 monthly, failed to report the additional family member , received over $2,000.00 in Food Stamps for 3 years, received over $1,600.00 in Public Housing Voucher Assistance, and it is called Theft by Deception. She had been turned in but she had a friend who is her case manager so the evidence went to the Federal HUD Office in Washington, DC so there would be no cover up. Marriage license and utility bills are proof.
