I have a felony on my record and I was working through a temporary service and I was completely honest with them about my background. They sent me on a job to the Ford plant and I worked for 2 weeks then received a call saying my background check came back and don't go back to that job. So now I'm where I started an some how my bills have to get paid and I'm trying not to stray back to the illegal lifestyle. Does anyone have a real helpful answer???

If you've changed your ways & are truly trying to re-enter society on the straight & narrow, then my advice would be to master some type of trade. Plumbing, electrical, heating & air, even installing floors. To get by for now, drive out to Shepherdsville & start knocking on doors in their vast industrial area. By all means, I would stay away from temp services because 9 times out of 10 your history will come back to bite you by using them. When submitting a résumé/application be presentable, leave any type of attitude at home, & speak like you have some sense of respect. Most importantly stay positive: think positive, walk positive & act positive. With all that said, somebody is bound to be left with a good impression of you. Felony or no felony.

Ask your parole officer. They should have a list of companies that hire felons. There are several warehouses in downtown Louisville that hire felons. You could even try and advocate by telling them there are tax cuts for the business that do hire felons. Many are leary if you have robbery, theft, and any type of violent crime, with good reason. I do know that White Castle has really good benefits!! And if you're a hard worker, Mcdonalds likes to promote from within!

What you need wrote:
Felons want to change, but it's harder than they think. The same mental problems that made them commit felonies in the first place are still there.
The best way to get past those problems is to start out very humble and work your way up slowly, from some kind of very lowly job, gradually gaining respect for the quality of your work, till you get more and more promotions, in however many years it takes. The important thing is to always earn respect by always being patient and industrious, and tolerating gracefully all the mistreatment that usually gets dished out to humble people.
The first step is to not ask for any kind of job where the employer would have to trust you. Just a job where you can work hard and earn respect for your hard work. A job where you won't have any opportunities to violate anyone's trust. That usually means a job where you get paid for sweat more than for brains.
You need such a job, not because you can't get hired for something better, but because it's the best kind of job to develop better character.
well said! character is one thing that can definitely always be improved upon with anyone!!

As an alternative, may I suggest you seriously consider what you would like to do as a career and then look into creating your own company offering that service or product. There are no prohibitions against a felon starting an LLC or corporation...and you become your own boss. Obviously not every felon will be able to do his but I'm sure many could and I believe there is even grant money available. Good luck.

No, in Kentucky you must either be pardoned by the Governor or the state legislature would have to pass a law allowing such offenses to be wiped off your record. The legislation is put forth every now and then but has not passed yet.

My company hires felons. It is dirty and physical work, but they are temp to hire positions, full time, benefits, 401K, vacation, day shift M-F, and starting pay is $10/hr. We only hire through temp agencies, but they are instructed not to determine employment eligibility based on background results. You just have to be willing to work hard, be honest, and reliable. Talk to People Plus - www.peopleplusinc.com
and Preferred Staffing in Hillview for more details.

Josh and Steve.....Time to put your big girl panties on and grow up. Felons deserve a second chance just as anyone else does. To the rest....very helpful comments. Glad you represent the mature class on here.
