We need new ideas. Armstrong seems to let everyone else take responsibility for his mistakes. If you tell him you will vote for him he will tell you he will change things around town and that just hasn't happened. He has been around way toooooo long!

How come shelbyville cops went wayyyy out of the city to bust a pot operation? Where was Armstrong and his boys? At the courthouse? Come on out in the county guys. Don't just hide in town with the other cops. Go where you are needed, i.e outside shelbyville. Armstrong said that since he took office, he's added 5 deputies. Where are they? Cutting chif deputy Gene Witt's tobacco? I wonder what the avg. response time is with the sheriff's office in comparison with surrounding counties. Additionally, I read a news report a couple of years ago that stated Shelby County's warrant service rate was the second worst in the state, only behind Jefferson County. Mr. Shirley has my vote. I just wish he would go for Armstrong's jugular. Mr. Shirley is being too polite.

GO STEWART!!!!

Mike the best man for the Job.
The comments on here are outragous and misinformed. First of all, if an investigation starts in one location it could lead you to any jurisdiction including another county. Budget constraints limits the office ability even with 5 people hired since Mike took office. That gives you 13 Patrol officers approximately 3 per shift because of off days. Those officers answer more than 16000 calls, serve warrants, civil papers and community details. I ask you to find a department with those resources that do a better job. No community has enough law enforcement. Speaking of warrants, the news article you mention didn't take in the account the large Hispanic population that is very mobile and has no verifiable identifiers for them to be served leading to the skewed number. The Sheriff’s Office is the only agency in the county to have a accident reconstruction team and is accredited through the Kentucky Chief’s of Police. Mike has been progressive with such a small office and will continue to move it in the right direction. Most of the complaints I hears are traffic related or mischief from our youth. No community, no matter how much enforcement will eliminate all crimes and if those are the two biggest issues we have to deal with I consider us lucky. It’s obvious by some of the comments on here it is personal and mean spirited. As a person that has dedicated my life to serving the community, I find it disheartening. It is easy to be critical without knowing all the facts.

You claim to be informed, well inform me on a few things:
Why did the sheriff's office get accreditation through the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) instead of through the Commission on Accreditaion for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)?
Answer: The IACP was wayyyy easier. You pay the costs (budget constraints? yeah, right), get a few policies on the books, and voila--you're accredited. It's kind of like having a degree, but it's from Sally Struthers.
And, your answer is why we need a change. You say that we're lucky to have you. I say you've settled into your job too much if you don't think that you can do better. Don't hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back.
Maybe it wouldn't be so disheartening if you guys were open to constructive criticism.
Stewart Shirley is.
And you mention warrant service...you'll be surprised what happens when you get out of the office and work. You won't serve many warrants there, on the interstate, either for that matter. You guys stay in Shelbyville and hang out too much. They have a police department. Because of staying in Shelbyville, when there's a problem out in the county, no matter what it is, it still takes you guys fifteen to twenty minutes to get out here. Why do you think that Cropper and Bagdad love Donnie Bruner? Because he's there when he's needed.

He has the experience and he is fair to everyone. I feel safer in Shelby County because of his performance in the Sheriff Office. He has taken the office to a higher level than most Sheriff Offices. Keep up the GREAT WORK, Mike!!

Right.....(rolls eyes). You have never seen any such record, because it doesn't exist. The sheriff collects a fee when ANY law enforcement agency serves a Shelby Co warrant. Take your arrogance elsewhere, Armsrong brainwashee.
