I see what you're saying. Also, when a person speaks in tongues, isn't he/she supposed to have an interpreter there? In other words, isn't the "tongues" supposed to be a true language?
I'm like you, though. I don't believe speaking in tongues is a true happening these days. We are under a new covenant, aren't we? This is in Hebrew, chapter 8, I believe. Or does the new covenant have anything to do with speaking in tongues?
I have to get off now. But I'll be back on tomorrow morning, and I'll see your answer then. Have a good evening, and thanks for answering my post.
Acts 2:6 (KJV)
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

In his own language. They were speaking known languages. Tongues aren't necessary today because we have the written word. The crap today is just man made nonsense.

If you wish to see ignorance, look no further than your own mirror, and you will know thy self as a false prophet! Anyone can quote the bible.

I thought as much. People today that claim to speak in tongues are only here to fool those that don't know any better. Those who've been taught by tradition rather than truth. Some of those people have never read the bible, and have no idea what's in it. I've read the bible several times, but I couldn't tell you that I'm a scholar when asked about any part of it. I mean, I can't recite scripture. I can tell you that I remember some things in there but I couldn't tell you where exactly those things are. Simply put, I know right from wrong. I live the best I can. I don't hurt anyone on purpose. And I am a believer.

Amen to that! Every bible "scholar" I've ever met has just been a scholar on another mans thoughts on the bible.
The thing is if you read it 10 times and I read it 10 times we will both retain different parts. That's why we need to work with our strengths and talk with each other and try to figure out the rest.
This is really why I'm not a fan of organized religion. Instead of listening to one guy give us his version of the truth every week, we should be meeting and all discussing what we've studied.
I think organized religion is just people's way of trying to mechanize the Holy Spirit.

Well you're lucky.
I do believe there are good churches but I believe they are becoming fewer and farther between.

I don't have a church either. I read the bible all the time. It always gives me comfort, especially when I'm having a rough day. And I like Psalms because when I read about David, my problems seem so mild in comparison. I also like Job. Look what he endured and still never gave in to Satan's wishes. I love the bible.

Also, the last few times I went to church was with a friend in December, and they had a Christmas tree all decorated. I wondered why. Christmas is a pagan holiday, and I know that the bible tells me that God said not to cut down a tree and decorate it and afix it in your house. I believe that's Jeremiah 10:10. Besides, Jesus wasn't born in December. He was born at tax time which in those days was in the fall of the year before the winter solstice. And, there's no way that the shepherds would have sheep in fields when snow covered everything...they would have froze to death out there. Also, by the time the wise men found Jesus, he was with his parents and already about 2 years old and living in a house in Egypt. That's why King Herod had all the baby boys from newborn to 2 years old killed. He wanted to be sure to kill the KING.

So...there ya go. That's my sermon for the day. Hahaha. This is my belief, by the way. I'm not in any way trying to convert anyone. So please don't bash me. I'll support your beliefs. You have a right to believe whatever you believe, but, so do I.
