is there a site for ST. THOMAS - ST. VINCENT ORPHANS HOME in KY ? i was there in 1960 to 1965. is there any information out there ? i can't seem to find anything on the home, i only know of one NUN who was there, SISTER JEAN DELORIS, she was over us,
i was born 1959, was adopted in 1965. why is so hard to get info about the home or the people who ran it.

Question: My grandma was born in 1932 and when she was 6 years old her brothers and sister were giving to St. Vincents in Louisville because her mom and dad were separated in 1936 and in 1938 she could no longer take care of her children so she sent her boys to St Thomas and daughters to St Vincents. They were there until 1943. A total of 5 years when she remarried and she already had 3 more children she sent for her 2 brothers and one sister to come back home. Can anyone tell me information on the conditions of St Vincents and St Thomas's between 1938-1943. They were never adopted out!

I too was at the Home during those years. There is a lot of info out here just keep looking. Unfortunately a lot of it is bad. I wish people would quit lying or exagerating the truth.

Patti S The Home was run by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and
the Louisville Diosecese Father Herman Lammers was the Chaplin at the Home.

I was there from 1980-1982, it was horrible. The only thing I have is a couple of pages out of some history book someone gave me a few years back.

A disturbed friend who is now in late 60's was at St. Thomas Seminary surely. However he appears to have been sent by his family to the orphanage first in about 1953 to 1959? How can one find a listing of those at the boys orphanage during these dates? This information may be able to help him.

Thank you!

Thanks Pogo. I actually live very close to the book signing. I have blocked out a lot of what happened there, but want to remember.

Pattie, I've also searched, periodically, over the years for a site on Sts. Thomas-Vincent Orphanage. That's how I came across your post on this site. The the thousands of children who passed through the doors there you would think someone (someone "tech-ier" than yours truly) would have done something by now. It just dawned on me to check Facebook for something. I was there from '65-'67.
And, re: Karen S. 10.12.10: "I wish people would quit lying or exagerating (sic) the truth." Your experience is not necessarily the experience of others, and comments like yours only repeats the damage done to some. Your (mis)judgment is harsh, unfair, and inhumane, heaping pain on top of pain.
Pattie, I hope you're doing ok!

I was in the home from around 1964-69 I was there with my 2 brothers and 4 sisters. I have blocked out most of my memories from that time. I too have tried to find out more about the home and keep coming up short. Maybe that is Gods way of keeping me safe.

Pattie, I was in Saint Thomas Saint Vincent at that time also. I was there with my 4 sisters (Katrina, Debbie, Angela and Rhonda) and 2 brothers (Gary and Gregory Lewis) I can not find any information on the home either. I will never forget the years I spent there. The one that was over me was Sister Rita Strussin ( I am sure I did not spell that right) I also remember Sister Deloris and seems like there was a Sister Micheal too.

I was at the Home from the mid-50s to mid-60s with my brother, Ken. I remember David House and his Mom too. She was very nice. I also remember Sister Delores Marie (she was huge!), Sister Mark, Sister Maud Michelle, Sister Ellen Therese (meaner than a snake!), Sister Mary Ann, Sister Charlotte Marie (the nurse), Sister Mary DiLigoria, Sister Charles, and others. Of course, Father Lammers. I also remember Philip Gregory, Charlie and Janet Bascialupi, Mary Yates, Hellen Burnett, Patsy Spaulding, Monica Aubry, Mary Margaret Peak, and others. There is a STSV Facebook page. Bottom line - it sucked being there as a young child, I was and am forever scarred from the experience, but ultimately, I survived, my bother survived and we are happy in our adult lives. I wish every child that had the unfortunate fate of being tossed into the abyss at STSV healing, hope and peace. Life can be good.

I was there in the nursery untill 5th grade (approx 1955 thru 1962). My sisters Becky, Linda, Cindy, Janet, and Elizabeth were there as well. I can only remember a few of the nun's names... Sister Charles, and Sister Delores Marie and of course Father Lammers.
I remember a lot of the people who were there with me. I was in 5th grade with Mary Yates, I was friends with Mary Margret Peak's brother James. My best friend from the nursery on was Michael Woods... he had polio. I had a good friend named Kieth Gaffeny. I rember Claude and David House, Charlie Bascialupi, James Owen, John and Don Marsh, Joe Avery, James Aubury, Pee Wee Miles, Joe Polo... and I'm sure I would recognize the names of many others. I have not been in contact with anyone from STSV but recently I have reflecting on experiences there...the good (my friends)... and the bad.
