Your comment of everyone is ignorant or donít understand, you have no idea, is the attitude from most of the DPS workers! I have even heard I have a masters degree. The attitude of I know and you donít is a big problem.

INFORMATION: I was in foster care and I was fortunate that my mother didnít want to raise me. I was adapted by a family that didnít do drugs, where not alcoholics, hard workers and Christians. My best friend was raised in foster care in a girls home.

My husband and I have been foster parents for a number of years. My best friend is a foster parent too. I have family that was a DPS worker / supervisor for over ten years.
She quit because she said the system was broke, I have worked with other workers that quit because they said the system was broke.

I feel the system is broke! I do think there are some workers that care and work hard, but I know some are lazy, arrogant, unprofessional, to use your works ignorant!

I thank God that I was given up and I was placed in a home that was functional and loving! My siblings that where raised by my bi mother where not as lucky as I am. They where raised in the welfare system. They had a drunk as a stepfather and have problems today as a result. There cycle wasnít broke.

justsaying01 thank you for your good contribution to the world and caring for children. I was in foster care for a few months and got sent back home to my mom and step dad because they went by the "rules" i won't say what they did to put me there but I will say that it was not the system that protected me it was God and God alone. there were some many problems in the system that i'm not sure if they even knew who i was sometimes. I did get a little counseling out of the whole ordeal and the impact workers seemed to be pretty good. I know that there are probs in every job but something does need to be done about how the cases are handled and sometimes what kind of cases are handled. I really do appretiate those that are out there trying to fit the good fight for the children. Coming from the situation that i did is nothing compared to what some kids go through but i really really really think it should be more about the children instead of the adults/parents.

Thank you! The abuse is the fault of parents, not DPS, it is truly a moral issue we are dealing with. The only true way of changing the immoral is through Jesus!

It should only be about the kids! The parents should have to earn the rite back! It shouldnt be God given.

Hey,here's a thought...STOP ARGUING ABOUT THE BEST AGENCY AND WORRY ABOUT THE KIDS! Justsaying, atleast you do sound like you are helping...cps worker...kids are #1 in this case...not trying to get them back in their home. Yes,kids may want to go back and live with their parents BUT it may not be an option sometimes, maybe they are abusers,neglecters....PAY attention to this and dont just reunite them like you are GOD and doing such a great job! I had a cousin, that went thru CPS..his mom was a prositute,he was abused everyway possible and he wanted to go back to his mom....that's just want KY let him do too!
Don't get mad at everyone bashing CPS when maybe they've tried working with CPS to get things done with no avail!
When people complain to CPS,CPS lets them know when they are coming to visit,no that's smart! CPS is coming, let me hid my drugs or clean up the filth! CPS was called on someone 3 times for kids living in filth and abuse...CPS sure let them know that they be here this day..or this day.. now this sounds like a GREAT plan to end child neglect/abuse!
And don't think I'm bashing you in general, I know a lady that works for CPS and she is a great person, tries helping everyone....maybe you do to...but my gosh, when something is reported, investigate it ASAP..if you can't get someone that can AND don't let the suspicious one know when you are coming!

IDIOTIC!

It's not an arguement about best agency. I didnt' see Seriously say that DJJ was better. It looks like the same old pattern of making excuses.

I don't work for DJJ but i do work in the school system. When teachers make referrals of abuse and neglect, we too are often ignored. I know that some school admins will charge the kid with disorderly conduct or another public offense to get the case with DJJ. THis seems wrong but we need to get something done. If not the situation just gets worse. We dont' want CPS to take allt he kids, we just want some intervention and some help getting services that we do not have access to. So many workers have your attitude Current CPS worker... Get defensive, blame others and some just do nothing.

In all the cases i've heard of and in mine too, it's always about getting the children reunited with the parents. Most of the time these children feel they have loyaltiy to the parents and in some cases feel that the parents need their protection, so yeah a kid is usually gonna say they want to go back home. Or maybe they are so uncomfortable and unwelcome in the foster home that they'd rather be back home with what they are used to.
So why is it that a convicted and registered sex offender is not aloud to be around chilren anywhere but it's ok for the abused child to be put back in the home with the perp??????
Why are these abusive and neglectful parents not investigated by the proper people when good parents are going to court every day having to defend their right to be a parent and make the right choices for their kids?

I was never trying to be defensive but trying to help some to see the problems outside of the 'WORKERS" I tried to encourage action that could help us make changes. I am sorry that the few of you have had what sounds like some very bad experiences and I am not ok with that. I just know thousands that have been helped. I only became offended when I began to get personally attacked and I should have known better because this is the fight i continue to refer to it is pointless. I back out now and get back to preparing my testimony for why we should "NOT" return a child home when a judge just denied a termination. Sometimes it feels like we are fighting the world. No wonder workers become so jaded and hardened. You gotta have a tough skin to take this day in and day out, or they run screaming. Where will our children be then?

I hope that one of you takes the next step to help us make changes. Hope you all have a safe Holiday:)

My comment was referring to the fact that I know the system and the facts of the certain cases being referred to. The cabinet cannot respond so no one knows what the agency did or didnt do, thats all i meant. I am so glad that you have had a good experience. there are always good stories as well as bad. Thanks for sharing.

This is an important matter for the kids of the future! There is a problem with the system! I have reported workers to ombudsman and filed a case against a judge, but nothing seems to change. The Lawyers and judges are just as much at fault. I have not got any support from the lawyers that are supposed to be fighting for the kidsí rites. This is a major problem. The just show up take there 300.00 and leave they are doing nothing! The judges arenít much better either.

I am a single father who has lost his children to DCBS.I have 2 boys ages 6,8.I have a daughter age9. Igot custody of them 4 yrs ago after their mother got addicted to meth. She put my children through hell. Anyways i got arrested 11 months ago for DUI and wanton endangerment on my children. Then 2days later they brought me an abuse charge against my 8 yr old son where i left a belt mark on his buttock. I love my children very much and i want them to be happy. My social worker is a very hard worker and i believe she loves my children. Dont get me wrong i know i messed up,but i dont want to.I have been living a lifestyle like isaw growing up. I used spanking as a form of punishment the same that i was tought.I have been taking classes for 11 months. I have not drank a beer in 11 months. I have learned so much and i am so grateful that my social worker is helping me to be the best parent i can be.Because i would never do anything intentionally to hurt my children, I just needed to be taught a better way to do it.

This is the courts and family services faults. Kentucky courts are still are so far behind, they still think the best place for a child is the mother, if you read the facts most abuse and sex abuse is done in the mother's home by men they bring in. Family Services is a joke in Ky, if you report something you better have proof, pictures, to prove it happened, you can'y call and say I've watched and I think something is going on. they will not investigate anything unless you have proof, I know this is what I was told when I called and reported that I thought a mother was drinking and partying with the child in the home, I didn't have proof or a date in other word they are not going to look into anything unless you have done their work for them, while in the meantime a child is being abused. They think more assistant is the answer, no so this give them more money to party with. I know a mother that has went to great lenghts to try and get her child declared with some sort of disabilty so she will be eilgible for more assistance so she doesn't have to work even though she gets child support. Now if your a father forget it child services and courts in Ky still believe a father is dirt and the only thing their good for is to pay child support. Go figure Ky is still called the backwoods redneck state...real nice image.
You hit the nail on the head. CPS in this state is a joke. People who are trying to raise their kids responsibly end up being hassled. But people who abuse their children have no problem at all with CPS. And the judges in family court are little more than rubber stamps for CPS. They won't go to the bathroom without asking permission first from a social worker.(Read the post about the Louisville judge who condoned child abuse. It's very informative.) I've been to family court four times to testify about abuse my grandsons have suffered. Never been allowed to testify once. When the CPS doesn't investigate properly and the judges won't allow testimony in their courtrooms, how could we not be #1? Until we begin to elect some real judges in this state, we'll continue to be at the top of the list.

I can tell you that this # or any other will not do any good. I know this information, as I am required to report almost daily in my job. I have witnessed personally DCBS turn the head to ignore child neglect. I always get a response it is "lifestyle". We need to contact lawmakers of Ky. DCBS needs to be held accountable for our children. PLEASE help our children.....many are suffering!!!
