My better half just called to tell me about the first person he met at this new job location. They both graduated from the same small town high school. 750 miles away. Small world.
Good morning, roaming. Hope you got some quality rest last night.
To everyone : Have a wonderful day!
To quote Phil Robertson: Happy, happy, happy day to you. Those shade trees and watermelon sure sounded good yesterday. Hope your chickens are doing well. Your Hubby seems like a terrific fellow. Glad he called you soon. Stories like yours remind me of everlasting love and not artificial encounters that wane;)

Chickens are doing fine but NOT laying. AND like the others commenting about the water...it's evaporating or leaking . Who knows. Sheesh

Yeah, my better half is a good person. You remember the blue moon last week? That was our 42nd anniversary. How does a person stay married that long? I always say "by not getting a divorce" lol. But, let me tell you, there's a few times that if a door to door divorce lawyer had knocked on our door at the right time.....lol.

Hmmmm, about those Jamaican girls...

<quoted text>Hello Miss E,.....say, tell me if you will, how many strings are there on a dulcimer and do you tune it in open E or open G (or neither)? I tried one in the Ozarks many years ago and have always thought about it. Also, have considered the auto-harp or whatever that is that Mother Maybelle played. It has a pretty sound, too.

Not to change the subject but the hummers are really going through some sugar water. We've got four of them around the yard and it's a constant job keeping them full. They may be packing it away for their trip further south, maybe Jamaica.(very relaxing place)
4 strings -- if you want to get some dulcimer players in a squabble start the "D" versus "G" controversy. I play in "D"
I'm a young one at almost 50 --- most players are older than me. I hate to see the instrument die out but I am concerned as it doesn't appeal to many young people. Cyndi Lauper played one a few years back on an award show while singing her 80's hit time after time.

My chickens are on a low cycle also. Besides my watching those Jamaican resort (Optional clothing) girls playing naked volleyball, there were also naked trapese lessons and I was afraid to look up. hahaha

Ok. I DO understand that with the RIGHT volleyball players... Well, oh, yeah! But naked trapeze lessons?? Aw come on. Can't see where that'd be enjoyable to participate in but it could be amusing to watch. It'd be pretty sweaty business under the Jamaican sun and difficult to get a good grip on someone....
Sigh, back to my reality and my Ohio River Valley life..lol

The trapese lessons were after sundown under the lights after which many participants would jump into an above ground pool. There was an underground bar where the back wall of the bar was a glass enclosure looking into the pool. Swimming attire was optional also and those not in the pool were in the overcrowded bar trying to get a beer LOL We got booked into the wrong resort and expected to go to one a bit more sedate. The resort was divided into 2 sections.. one nude, one prude but our prude room was at the dividing line. LOL

@Anne, the trapese lessons were not on really high equipment that would normally be seen at a circus, but at a much lower level with netting and the nudes would bounce and flop and flop and bounce. hehehe

OK ya all! Wolf I was not originally gonna say anything about the "environment or scenery" down there in Jamaica but durn if I can remember the swing'n vine entertainment. But......my head was already swirling from that damn Red Strip beer they gave away down there and that's "all" the beer they offered,... worse than Bud! So I got to liking those strawberry daiquiris and now I hope I never see another bottle of rum! I know that the prudes developed a crook in their neck at the Hedonism II resort. Which one did you use? The Belle and I went down there twice. The first time just to "see", the second time was for another couples marriage. HHhhuuHHummmm...all had a grand old time soak'n up the sun.(yeah,...right!)

Thanks, Miss E. No, don't think I'll start a squabble over the tuning because I don't know enough about the instrument (yet). I assume you're meaning that you can tune to either "OPEN" G or D. In that case, wouldn't G be considerably higher in pitch than D. I mean, the strings would be stretched some tighter or higher.(who is Cyndi Lauper? I really don't know) I've gotten back on my old Conrad Dobro and found out I needed to learn again!

It was 20 years ago at Hedonism II in Negril. I dont favor sweet drinks, so I suffered through the Red Stripe. We took the prude ride on the boat out to where 20,000 Leagues had been filmed. There were 2 trips daily, with the prudes and nudes going separately. I bypassed the group bus tour of the Island and hired a driver to take us around privately all day for the same price as the group tour plus a tip. It was simply amazing the contrast between all the partying at the resort versus the poverty including an open donkey cart loaded with butchered meat and lots of flies. Yeah, I did get a crook in my neck and it was mainly from jerking my head away from 95% that needed a few clothes to observe something a bit more eye candy. LOL At their final party, I thought lightning might strike me when they were playing "Name that Tune" and I was the only one of maybe 300 people that knew "Amazing Grace" and won a bottle of rum that I gave away to keep from paying an export duty. Sadly, it was the last vacation that I took with the wife before she got sick and passed on. So maybe the lightning did strike.

@MM... Being a history buff of small details (nut lol), that trip did make me more aware of the 1700s pirates and privateers that operated out of Point Negril, Jamaica plying their trade primarily in a triangle from there to Savannah-Charleston to New Orleans.

Two of the most violent pirates ever were Anne Bonney and Mary Read masquerading as men aboard Captian "Calico" Jack Rackham's "Vanity". When Calico Jack was tried for his crimes, those two "plead their bellies" since they were both pregnant and eventually settled in Louisiana where they lived together and raised their children.

No, but it is about the only one left that is not being monopolized by the political junkies or those that thrive on local gossip, hatred, and bigotry. So welcome and have a good day.

Ancient Wolf:

You are pretty much a fixture in this here Topix page, I would be hurt and disappointed if you hadn't been here when I get a mail alert that someone has posted.

I enjoyed both Jamaica stories, I don't know if I knew your wife had passed. I think I just joined Topix in Tollesboro about a year ago but I grew up in Tollesboro, we moved away in 73, traveled the world and lived many places in the US, moved back home Christmas of 2004, our house wasn't even done, we stayed in the RV for almost 2 weeks.

We moved back because I expected to die. And, to get my wife close to family. And, to keep an eye on Mom & Dad as they age O' So Gracefully. It must be the Lord keepin' them so young and active. I had surgery for pancreatic cancer in April 04 and that was the prognosis. The Good Lord has kept me here for over 9 years, Doc says I'm gonna make it, Is that a Blessing or What?

We gave up our big house in Taft, TN with a huge pool in the backyard, you can see it on Google Earth at 17 Lewter RD, Taft, TN. In return we got twice the land we had, now 61 acres, the foundation is done for the log home, hope to have logs delivered in the fall. Down payment is made. The home and garage we built is so nice, we are so thankful to Our Father. We try now not be be "so much in the world"

But today Ancient Wolf, we go to the wake of the strongest Christian woman we ever knew. It was only 7 months since we went to the wake and funeral of her husband. He was the strongest Christian man we ever knew. He died in a car accident on the way home to check on her. They were both in our small group at church, we learned so much. There are surely people in here that knew them both. Rest In Peace Timmie and Tammy Doyle. They are dancing together on Gods' Dance Floor today!
