Heeheehee ... I did consider that your IH could a truck but thought the odds were it would be a tractor. You've got a Goldie oldie that would make my husband ask a lot of questions, but, alas, I'm not a connoisseur of things with motors. I just know the car lots don't have them for sale.
...about those hogs...just think..tonight you don't have to go feed or do whatever you generally have to do for them.. Vacation time or maybe one of those Staycations!

coffee and dog-tree time here, Sure is nice and cool outside, almost chilly. I don't call the homestead as being in a holler but I suppose it is. I live at the end of the line in the bottom land of a long sloping hill with my corn field and chicken house on a 1 acre terraced area up the hill. I climb there several times every day and I suppose that helps keep the ticker-a-ticking. LOL
My closest neighbor is across the creek in front of my house about a 1/2 mile up on a ridge of an even higher hill. So dog and I hide behind the tree when we are out taking care of business. At that distance, the neighbors wife could see what we are doing, but unlikely to see what we are doing it with or even care. LOL
AW you sure get the exercise! Our barn is about 700 feet from the house and the driveway is somewhat hilly so its pretty good exercise. If the weather is cool enough I will run part of it but if its horrendously hot and humid, I drive.
My sisters house is about 1200 feet from mine and when her land keeper(?) steps outside to , uh, relieve himself there's no question as to what he's doing. He's since realized we see all from our vantage point. Lol. Then, as country people are apt to have, there's always binoculars...to check things out over on the next hill. Lol

How many, many times I've wished there was more good things in the news today. But day in and day out, the radio, T.V., news paper, all have nothing but disruptive stuff going on. But here is a bit of sunshine for me. Since I got home and can get around some now, a young buddy from 1/2 mile down Mississippi's dusty, rock road, he comes down to just check on me maybe 2 or 3 times a week. He's not but 32 years old and is better capable to do some of the things I can't do.......yet. But I thought that's been pretty good of him to do this and it sure makes me think better of the ole world we live in!
So you really are a Mississippi Man? I'm using an iPhone and I'm not on the full topix site so locations don't show up like they do on the full site. That big ole lake you're close to must be really nice from what I can tell from the computer images.
Your buddy that comes down/over to visit and help out reminds me of a neighbor guy that always helped my dad. When my dad passed at 70 the neighbor guy really took it hard. Even 10 years later its hard for him to talk about my dad.
I hope you enjoy the day and get a bit of this beautiful sunshine! Sit on the porch and just soak it in!!

Fabulous Friday to each and everyone !!

Good Deal. There are still some quality people in this old world. I am familiar with your general area. I have fished in Arkabutla Lake in years past, also in the back waters around South Haven.
How about Reelfoot, Wolf? I've been up there only once just because of too many "sneaky snakes!" I have no idea how the fish'n is there but I'm no fisherman to speak of.

I went there only once myself, more often fished in Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana with plenty of snakes in those areas also. Once while in a swamp, I had a snake fall out of a cypress tree into the boat. Big decision on whether to jump in the water, or beat a hole in the bottom of the boat with the paddle and still be in the water. LOL

And Now We Know:Fowl-Mammals-Fish-Honey Bees all KILLED by our Government and Monsanto. This is heartbreaking.
This news report (from 2011) reveals that the USDA poisoned a group of several thousand birds in Nebraska as part of its "Bye Bye Blackbird" program from the '60s, which has murdered over FOUR MILLION birds since 2009. Carol Bannerman with the USDA Wildlife Services defends this activity and claims it's being done to protect "human health and safety" in the name of agriculture. Many are endangered.
Further research reveils this is only the tip of the iceberg. "Bye Bye Blackbird Program" began in the 1960's under the USDA Wildlike Damage Management Program, since then massive amounts of all forms of wildlike both fowl and mammals have been culled with poisons owned and distrubuted by none other than "MONSANTO". This research reeks of Agenda 21. The long list of their disposible wildlife includes many of our songbirds, owls, herions, looms, the list is truly heartbreaking and goes on and on. If you are an animal, wildlife and nature lover as I am, prepare yourself for a shock.

Highlights of Political Actions and Investigations
2011
Featured on CNN Headline News in a story about M-44 poison traps used by the USDA’s Wildlife Services program. The producers had heard about our efforts to ban M-44s and had also seen our YouTube video,“Two Killers That Need to Go,” on the deadly threat of M-44s. The CNN interview featured our executive director, Brooks Fahy, as well as people we've helped over the years who have been injured by M-44s or who have lost dogs to them. This is the first time that this issue and Wildlife Services’ lethal predator control program have been featured in a national live broadcast. It was conducted during prime time, reaching millions of households in the U.S. and abroad.
2010
Spearheaded introduction of H.R. 5643, the Compound 1080 and Sodium Cyanide Elimination Act, in the U.S. Congress by Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio.
2008
Primary resource for writer who authored Men’s Journal article:“America’s Secret War on Wildlife” in January 2008 issue by providing background information, sources, data and photographs.
2007
Spearheaded introduction of the Compound 1080 and M-44 Elimination Act, H.R. 4775, in the U.S. Congress by Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio.
Compelled the EPA to launch a criminal investigation of the 2003 M-44 poisoning of Dennis Slaugh on public land in Utah.
2006
Documented several incidents of accidental M-44s poisoning in Utah. One of the cases involved a senior citizen who was poisoned by a U.S. government trap and continues to suffer greatly from this poisoning. An investigation is ongoing.
2005
Convinced county commissioners of Lane County, Oregon to not re-sign its contract with the USDA’s Wildlife Services lethal predator control program. The contract would have supported trappers who kill predators at the request of ranchers.
Congressman Peter DeFazio introduced the first bill to ban Compound 1080 since President Nixon signed an Executive Order in 1972 banning its use in the U.S. HR4567 was a comprehensive bill that would put an end to the manufacture, processing, possession, distribution, or use of Compound 1080. Passage of this bill would also have closed the only known 1080 factory in the world, located in Oxford, Alabama. The bill would also have provided for the collection and destruction of existing stockpiles. Predator Defense was the driving force behind this bill to outlaw Compound 1080. Unfortunately, the Republican led House made sure this bill went nowhere.
2004
Posted 2,000 “Tip Line” posters at remote trailheads in Idaho letting people know poison baits had been put out in these areas. We believe the poisoning was motivated to kill wolves but they also killed dogs and other non-target animals. Soon after our campaign the poisoning stopped.
2003
Convened town meeting in Oxford, Alabama, home of Tull Chemical—the only company in the world that produces Compound 1080 poison. Predator Defense gave a slide show on the history and hazards of Compound 1080 and met with community members and members of the local media providing information on the dangers of 1080.
2002
Provided legal support for families who lost pets to wildlife trappers.
2001
Made an emergency request to the Office of Homeland Security to ban Compound 1080 citing its potential use as a chemical weapon. The request received extensive press coverage.

Help stop the USDA Wildlife Services by contacting your senators and congressman. This government agency takes private industry jobs and competes against the private sector.

Lovely day in the neighborhood and now we are blessed with more rain. I got wet closing up the chickens, but it saved on filling the old wash tub for the Saturday Night bath. I was not looking forward to shampooing with lye soap anyways.

LOL, I remember the using the old washtub at my grandparents' home, when I was a kid. The youngest took the last bath. Yuck. I could have used some lye soap last night. I was working outside yesterday, and fell asleep on the couch before I took a shower. I woke up a couple of hours later, itching like heck. CHIGGERS!! Those are nasty critters that you can't even see...not to mention the ticks. We pay for the mild winters with an explosion in the insect population. I never knew what chiggers were until I got the nasty surprise when I moved down here.
